Manufacturer's Description
A pair of blue ceramic piglets for salt and pepper. "I knew my salt pig had a future beyond the edges of my stove. Now it has given life to a twin pair of piglets, ready to do service at the table. Fill one with sea salt, the other with crushed pepper. Charm and serviceability – what more do you want?" ---Nigella Lawson
NIGELLA LAWSON'S LIVING KITCHEN
Nigella Lawson is one of the UK's most popular food writers and broadcasters. Her range of kitchenware items, designed in collaboration with Sebastian Conran of Conran & Partners, was launched in 2002. Her day to day experience in the kitchen led to her desire to improve the tools of her trade; the result is an original, practical and stylish range of kitchen items ideal for today's home cook. Paying close attention to form, materials and colour, the Living Kitchen collection is of a high production and design standard. Traditional materials such as ceramic and wood are used in a contemporary and imaginative way, improving the function of the products. Delightful to use and a pleasure to display in the kitchen; as Nigella herself writes:- "Everything has to be utterly reliable, but there needs to be a pleasure beyond the functional.
For me, pieces of kitchen equipment are like toys for grown ups: getting them has to feel like a treat." From household favourites such as mixing bowls in Nigella's signature colours of "white with soul" cream or duck egg "good mood" blue, to elegantly curved cooking tongs, each item brings something new and useful to the kitchen. Sophisticated packaging makes Living Kitchen products ideal to give as gifts, or as a personal treat.
Customer Reviews
Very cute but quite expensive for what they are
They're lovely and look really nice on the dining table, but they are extortionately overpriced for what they are. They're also quite fiddley to fill and use if you have big hands as the opening is very small.
Fiddly piglets
The salt and pepper piglets look charming, but they're too small to be practical. I can't get my thumb and index finger into the opening to pick up a pinch of salt, but have to use a spoon instead.
Another problem is that the tiny piglets are rather unstable, and when I'm busily preparing food, I've been known to bump the small china objects, knocking them over and spilling their contents.
They chip all too easily, too.
My verdict: pretty objects, but a lot too small and fragile to be of practical use.
Salt and pepper piglets
I was thinking of ordering the larger salt pig but noticed the smaller version with both salt and pepper pigs. Quite small when I first openned the box and I was thinking of sending them back. But they hold quite alot of rock salt and crushed black peppercorns. They do look good on the table and everyone has remarked how cute they look.
