Product Description

A beautiful picture book about garden birds that will appeal to families with young children. Rachel Lockwood's wonderful illustrations will delight children aged from two to seven, and will help them to discover and identify the most common birds in their everyday surroundings. Each bird is introduced on a right-hand page in an illustration where it is partly obscured or turned away from the viewer. The text gives some clues and invites readers to guess the bird's identity. The reader then turns the page to find out more. 'A beautiful picture book that will appeal to children aged 2 to 7 and will help them identify common birds in their everyday surroundings.' Publishing News 'This beautifully illustrated book by the RSPB is a lovely way to introduce younger juniors to the UK's birds.' Scholastic's Junior Education, April 2007

Lovely book for nature lovers4
I bought this for my niece as she lives in the country-side with animals and birds everywhere. She's still quite young but she liked the book because she got to guess which bird it was.

There is an illustration of the back or side of a bird and a description of the sound it makes, where you will usually see it (in hedges, tall trees etc) and what colourings it has and then you have to guess the name. Turn over the page and it gives the answer and a front illustration of the bird with more information.

While I would guess that this book would be more exciting for 5+ year olds, my niece is not yet 3 and she seems to enjoy the guessing and remembering which bird it is and, of course, the pictures.

Really nice book for kids who are interested in nature

Dissapointed2
The pictures in this book are of a painting style not photos, this makes it a bit harder for small children to identify the different birds.

A young birdwatchers book5
Excellent, as I would have expected from the RSPB!! Beautifully illustrated and anotated. I loved the way that the book drew the reader on by posing a question and giving the young person the incentive to read on.
