Uniross Sprint, AA and AAA
Pros:
* Can take 1-4 AA or AAA (only one type at a time, of course)
* Very quick charge times
* Comes with a car charge lead so you can charge on the go
* Compact for a 4 cell charger
* Long power cable
* Will charge non-uniross branded rechargeable batteries
Cons:
* Has a cooling fan that is not as quiet as id like
* Only does AA and AAA, no larger batteries
* Does not charge Ni-CAD
To summarise, the noise from the fan would not be enough to put me off buying another, this is an excellent charger. And it does help cool the thing down while its charging your bats fast.
4 out of 5, very good charger, with a super quiet fan would be near on perfect for AA/AAA charger.
A great buy
This Uniross rechargeable-battery charger is a great deal. It charges batteries (AA Ni-Mh or AAA Ni-Mh) fast, includes a car adaptor and includes 4 x 2300mAh batteries - all for a good price.
Batteries are charged fully within an hour, or given a quick charge in about 15min. One nice feature is the long power cord - it gives you freedom to put the charger somewhere convenient. Also impressive is the red Uniross logo on the charger that glows when batteries are being charged. 1, 2, 3 or 4 batteries can be charged simultaneously; as long as they are all the same type. A flashing indicator below each compartment flashes rapidly to indicate initial fast charge, then slower for maintenance charge (full charge). It stays lit to indicate fully charged.
The fan, although complained about below, is not too loud. The batteries do get very warm with the large charging current, and the fan works well to keep them a safe temperature, becoming faster/slower when required. You can also tell when the charge is finished, because the fan stops. However, I find it a little annoying that the air is permeated by a hot 'new plastic' smell by the action of the fan. This is probably only a 'new' thing and might get less after each charge.
The other annoyance I have relates to the negative terminal. The batteries are held tightly, and the AA batteries get caught on the negative terminal, resulting in the battery cover being torn at the bottom of the battery. This is a bad design, albeit a minor error.
Despite the minor faults, I would recommend this battery charger. It is a good quality, fast and portable charger - I am glad I bought it.
Top notch charger
Nothing much to add to the previous reviews: its cool, it's fast and it's Uniross! And it charges batteries individually, which I think is a great plus.
Regarding the fan, yes you can hear it, but it's not like having a helicopter taking off next to your desk. I believe it's quite a challenge to design a quiet fan /airflow system to cool four batteries in an open design like this. And the fan is temperature controlled too, which means that once the charging process is over and the batteries cool down, the fan stops automatically.
Also to note is that while the charger itself is small and light, the power supply is nearly the same size as the charger, and not light. Once again this cannot be avoided when you consider the current output of this charger.
I have no idea how Amazon manages to sell this charger for so cheap...be careful to compare the right model number (some sellers are still selling the older Uniross Sprint 15 RC103814 (with blue batteries) for cheap, other sell this one for £30 or even £40!!) I'll say, if you use rechargeables all the time, which you should ;), grab one whilst you can!!
