Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
Bitterne is now a bustling suburb of Southampton yet few people are aware of the events and people that shaped it. Its first inhabitants were the Romans who, in 43AD, established the town of Clausentum on the promontory on the River Itchen now called Bitterne Manor. Bitterne Manor House was built in medieval times for the Bishops of Winchester and provided hospitality to kings and archbishops, before falling into disrepair.
