For all those who characterize Bruce as a bombastic rock musician this collection of jazz influenced, stream of conscious pieces serves as the perfect rebuttal.

The word "sprawling" was made for "The River". Whilst it is overlong it contains some of his most perfect compositions ("Wreck On the Highway" "Price You Pay" "The River")

To compare this record to "Nebraska" is unfair this is a lighter record but shows the maturity of his later compositions.
