Product Description

The explosive first novel from the author of the bestselling 'The Little Prisoner' is a gripping tale of a woman whose troubled childhood comes back to haunt her. In the chill of a winter's morning, a sweet and likeable 13-year-old girl unexpectedly gives birth in the bathroom of her council flat. The baby, the product of a brutal rape by her stepfather, is whisked away to hospital and is eventually adopted by a rich suburban couple. As far as everyone is concerned, Sadie will never see the baby again. The girl, Sadie Burrows, survives her ordeal and goes on to become a successful businesswoman, famous in the media, even courted by politicians as an example of young enterprise. Then, out of the blue, there is a knock at the door. And Sadie's shameful secret comes back to haunt her. Sadie, the first novel by best selling author of 'The Little Prisoner' Jane Elliott, is an explosive story of abuse, business, love, success, blackmail, murder and cover-up.

About the Author
Jane Elliott first decided to tell her story to the police after taking inspiration from Dave Pelzer's powerful memoir, 'A Child Called It'. Watch out Martina !4
I really enjoyed this book - read Martinas the business straight after and would definately rate Sadie over The Business - I read it in two days passed it to my daughter who also read it in two days - it's one of those where you just cannot put it down -

Well written, but storyline was a little unoriginal3
Sadie was a very quick, easy read. But, while I thought it was well-written, the storyline was too predictable. The 1st half concentrates on the main character's childhood, and does a good job of it. But I felt like the 2nd half was a bit rushed. There were no surprises at all. We get no real sense of her life - nor of any other love interest. I felt like the whole thing needed to be a bit more hard-hitting.

There's definitely something Martina Cole-like about Jane Elliott's writing (a high compliment indeed), and I have a feeling we're going to see some good stuff from her going forward. But she needs to have a few more twists in her plotlines to really bring her up to the MC level. MC is never afraid to go out on a limb and throw in some shocks for the reader. That's what was missing in Sadie.
