Paul Reizin is living proof that it is possible to find happiness through the lonely hearts column in a newspaper. So are his wife, and their baby. "Date Expectations" tells the hilarious true story of some of the most disastrous dates in the history of courtship, as Paul sets out on an increasingly fraught quest to leave singledom behind ...These include the date with the psycho hippy nutter; the date who didn't turn up; the world's shortest date; and the date with a face like a bag of spanners. " 'This witty account of his voyage through the personal ads is not only entertaining, it's full of useful hints...Best of all, it's hopeful - a real-life story with a happy ending' - You magazine. 'Hilarious' - Daily Mirror (four stars)"
From the Back Cover
It was the dinner with Sally that finally pushed me over the edge. I was single; she was single. A mutual friend thought we might be ideally matched. ‘You’ll love Sally,’ she assured me. ‘Sally’s an absolute riot.’ Was a distant alarm bell ringing in my head? If it wasn’t, it should have been. Sally smoked like a train, drank like a fish and laughed like a hyena. She was the sort of riot you want to suppress with a water cannon. The next day I decided I would advertise in the lonely hearts…
And so Paul Reizin (Intelligent, witty M. Tall, professional, 42) swallowed his pride and went in search of true love through the newspaper lonely hearts columns.
Funny, revealing and also surprisingly instructive, Date Expectations is the true story of one man’s painful progress through the emotional minefield that is blind dating. What’s more, it’s a story with the best sort of ending: it is possible to find happiness through the classifieds. Paul Reizin is living proof of this. So is his wife. And their daughter.

Customer Reviews
Very Funny
I read this book primarily to understand how blind dating works.
This is a very funny account of Paul Reizin dating various women from 'The Guardian' classified column.
He explains his tactics in detail before narrating his escapades. This way he makes the readers feel the same shock he expereinces during his encounters.
His "lessons learnt" are funny.
Definitely this book has changed the way i see the personalised Ads in newspapers.
