For author Martin Stillwater, life couldn’t be more perfect. He and Paige are happy together, and their two daughters, Emily and Charlotte, are intelligent and healthy and his novels are achieving long-hoped-for levels of success. So why does he feel such dread, experience sudden blackouts?
The killer doesn’t know his own name, only the name he uses. He has no family, no friends, no home. He cannot recall who gives him his assignments, and he doesn’t know why his targets must die. Now, however, he senses that in a town he can’t yet envision, a life awaits him, a place to call home, with family and friends.
Charlotte knows something is wrong: the man moves and sounds like Daddy, but he doesn’t smile as quickly or as often as usual. And when he does smile, he seems to be pretending. Daddy isn’t Daddy.

Mr Murder...
was yet another gripping read from Mr Koontz. He seems effortlessly to give characters dimension & situations intensity without using tons of description.
The pace of this is perfect, not to rushed and non too slow either. You care about his 'good' characters and feel curious about his baddy. I would describe it as a thriller with a mystery element.
Of all the books I've read of Dean Koontz' s this is one of my favorites as it doesn't have the supernatural element some of them does but still has action and atmosphere.
Classic Koontz suspense!
Martin Stillwater, dubbed Mr. Murder by a magazine, is a mystery writer. He has a beautiful life with wife Paige and two lovely daughters. Things couldn't get better for Martin. Yet, while dictating into a recorder for his novel he finds himself saying over and over, "I need..." That was slightly creepy.
Then comes the killer - a real Mr. Murder. He finds himself chanting the same phrase over and over as well. "I need..." The killer finds himself drawn westward. He doesn't know where or why, he just knows he needs to get there.
Once there Martin and the killer come face to face. They are dead ringers for each other. The crazed killer begins to believe that Martin has stolen his life with wife page and his two daughters ... that Martin is the impostor.
The book then takes off at lightning speed with twists and turns and truly hair-raising suspense as only Mr. Koontz could do it.
I have read a number of Dean Koontz books. This is one of his finest (my favorite Dean Koontz work is Lightning - I highly recommend that one as well). The only issue with this book that was a very slight negative is that I felt it was just a little longer than it had to be - about 50 pages could have been stripped away without losing any of the tension or story.
This book is definitely worthy of your time. I highly recommend it.
Great read
When I was looking at the Dean Koontz books in Borders, I noticed that the copy they had of Mr Murder (one of Koontz' books which I'd never heard of at the time) had the cover on inside out and back to front. I thought that this was weird so decided to buy it, not really knowing if I was going to enjoy the actual story or not.
Fortunately, this is one of Dean Koontz' best books, it is very good and suspenceful and difficult to put down. I loved the charactors and thought the storyline was very interesting.
Marty Stillwater is a bestselling auther, a happily married man with a loving wife, Paige, and two kids. But suddenly he is experience blackouts and terrible feelings that something bad is going to happen. The killer does not know anything about himself, not even his name, just the name he uses but he does know one thing - he wants a family, and Marty Stillwaters' family would be perfect for him. Charlotte Stillwater knows that there is something wrong wither her father; he looks and acts like daddy but something is different, something has changed.
I really enjoyed this book and would have given it 5 stars but there was a scene of cruelty to animals which I really did not like so I have only given it 4.
Overall, a good book which I would recomend to fans of Dean Koontz or of the horror/thriller genre.
