Product Description

A powerful and political thriller from the master of the genre.

The scene is set for a huge funeral in St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. The rich and the famous from all over America – and beyond – have arrived to honour a former First Lady after her sudden, unexpected death. Then follows an attack that was three years in the planning. Hostages are taken – the ex-President among them – ransoms demanded, a couple of hostages shot to show the kidnappers mean business. It’s all brilliantly and chillingly co-ordinated, and Michael Bennett, the detective in charge of the case, knows it will be his biggest ever challenge.

Customer Reviews

Is Bennett the new Cross?3
Unlike some reviewers I wasn't completely underwhelmed by this book, although I did have some reservations. Mike Bennett was a strange character in that he was in the middle of possibly the single biggest crisis of his life, i.e. his wife dying and yet he was able to keep sufficient control of himself to cross swords with Jack. I didn't really buy into the 10 kids, the priestly grandfather and Mary Catherine who I thought might turn out to be a villain rather than "too good to be true" oh and I hated the idea of Bennett's ear-ring, but for all that I thought that the character had potential. Is James Patterson looking to replace Alex Cross and are we going to see more of Mike Bennett? If so send the kids to Ireland with Mary Catherine and put grandad in a monastery and let Mike concentrate on being a cop.

Not bad3
This is the first Patterson book I've read. I thought it was okay, but I had to stop my self from skim reading some of it. There was enough going on to stop me putting it down and I wanted to know what happened. The characters were a bit stereotypical (black chat show hostess, hard nut rock star, good cop, mean "baddies") I didn't think that there was much depth but it past a few hours.
I will try another Patterson book because I have been told that most of them are really good!

Fast paced, easy to read yarn3
I've started to read a few of Pattersons books now and have been impressed. This one was pretty good but the ending was a bit of a let down. It's easy to read and is ok to pass the time though not as good as the likes of Beach Road which I couldn't put down.
