If Jack's team can find and rebuild a legendary ancient device known only as the "Machine", they might be able to ward off this coming Armageddon. The only clues to its location, however, are held within the fabled Six Sacred Stones, long lost in the fog of history. And so the hunt begins ...From Stonehenge in England, to the deserts of Egypt, to the spectacular Three Gorges region of China, "The Six Sacred Stones" will take you on a non-stop rollercoaster ride through ancient history, modern military hardware, and some of the fastest and most mind-blowing action you will ever read.

is this true1
at the start of the book he claims the autumnal equinox is on august the 21st i always thought it was in september.

I wish I hadn't bothered1
After reading the first few pages I though I'd really get into this book. It's my first Reilly. Having finished it will be my last. This book is a comic without the pictures. The characters are all shallow and explained in short sentences. They really have no depth. Reilly also has a chip on his shoulder about the super powers (Britain and America come in for a good beating at the hands of an Australian ex-(you name it Jack has been it). This is Dan Brown for the not so clever. The reader is led, at a fast pace, from circumstance to circumstance with barely a few minutes aboard a stolen black 747 to post a message on a bulletin board encrypted in an arcane a easily breakable code. I'm actually shocked that a book has left me wanting less. I wish I could unread it.

How to write a page-turner2
To answer my review title - every chapter (keep em short and staccato) leaves a trailing question or two regarding the survival of various of the frankly unbelievable cast of characters. Don't be too harsh on this book though - its fun and it passed a 3 and a half hour train journey for me without too much mental effort.

I imagine a bet may have caused the relentless onslaught of car chases, plane chases, helicopter chases, train chases; you name it, if it can propel a human being from A to B it will be featured in a chase scene at some point in this book.

A mash-up of Mission Impossible, The Fifth Element, and the Da Vinci Code. Raised a few chuckles but I doubt I would buy any of his others.
