It's OK, but no more
This album, judging from the other comments is clearly ideally suited to dancers who want to use it to dance to... Fair enough, with a title like "Strictly Come Dancing" - that's fair enough. But...
One of the big attraction for me of "Strictly" is the fine orchestra and singers performing loungy versions of popular tunes, along with some traditional dance music - this album looked great (and I didn't look carefully enough) until I found that the majority of the songs were performed by the great Bruce Forsyth; don't get me wrong - I like Bruce, he's come back better than ever and a few songs from him would be great, but he just can't carry the album.
You won't be sorry you bought this, it's nice to listen to - I'd just have liked more of the house band and singers, that's all!
And Bruce, on the off chance you read this - I still love you!
An excellent compilation.......
As a Strictly addict and dancer, this compilation was a MUST HAVE and I'm really pleased with it...what a great collection of re-worked modern classics and old favourites. Track seven is gorgeous and very well chosen for this album...so much so I'm thinking of having it as our wedding dance later this year! I agree with some of the comments below though - track six is blatently NOT a Paso and must be a Samba (a mere admin error on the sleeve perhaps?!).
Great value for money as well - surely it's time for volume two (and three, and four......!)?
Strictly Come Dancing
Overall, a very engaging, fresh and entertaining cd of ballroom music. It is NOT a ballroom beginner's CD because the combination of lyrics and, at times, difficult-to-make-out rhythm, and musical arrangement make it not ideal for beginners. The waltz at track 7 is excellent and is one of the best modern tunes I have heard for the modern ballroom waltz in recent times. The quicksteps are also very good and Bruce Forsyth's singing makes those particular tracks quite magical, especially track 14! Criticisms are: track 6 is noted as a Paso Doble - this is NOT a Paso Doble but a samba; track 16 is noted as a waltz but its tempo is neither a modern waltz nor classical waltz (Quick Waltz) - in short, it is not a ballroom dance of any description!; track 19 - difficult to follow the rhythm for a rumba; track 23 is noted as a Paso Doble - again, like track 6, this can never be described as a Paso Doble - it is actually more like a waltz tempo/ rhythm!
