Manufacturer's Description
Make history as you command battalions through the Make history as you command battalions through the most decisive battles of World War II. D-DAY has arrived, the dawn of the Allied forces' final drive to Europe's liberation. Plan your attack carefully and then engage enemy forces using authentic strategies, troops, weapons and vehicles. It's 3D real-time tactical action on an epic scale!

Rather good
This is very good value for money and is a very enjoable game. You can control paratroopers aswell as normal troops. You can have british troops aswell as american troops which is a real extra. The only bad point is that some of the missions are hard. You can even get into german tanks and guns. wow !!!
Don't believe all that you read
I usually use GameSpot for game reviews where D-Day got quite a beating. However, at this price it is well worth giving it a chance and forming your own opinion; I think the GS reviewer got up on the wrong side that day. Sometimes the AI does go a little astray but I have found that in all RTS's that I've tried - including the nicely polished Panzers. However, the interface for D-Day is probably the simplest there is. There is no manual in this packaging version but if you have played this sort of game for 5 minutes before you will find everything very intuitive with nice, big control buttons that are easy to use.
The historical aspect is extremely interesting and the 'Allo Allo' angle with the French resistance quite amusing.
I have not played it all but the best bit for me was the Omaha landings, which are kept at just the right scale to remain manageable in order to control the operation and make the best use of weight of numbers and a few special squads to overcome the odds and capture the beach-head.
The game also teaches you a few things e.g. by not allowing access to tanks when you have a few panzers to deal with, so you have to get in there with flamethrower and bazooka infantry (my tip is to whizz a few around the place in a motorbike and sidecar!).
Good game, worth getting!
