Customer Reviews
Pointless movie of a great book!
I literally watched the movie 10 minutes after finishing the book. I loved the book but unfortunately the film fell way short.
To put it simply, YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THIS MOVIE UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK!, but even having read the book the movie offers nothing new.
Despite many people seeing a movie within the book, after reading the book , i wondered how on earth they were going to do it. There is just so much dialogue in the book that i thought surely the movie would have to be very long to fully detail each insight. Alas this movie is only 96 minutes in lenght and so each insight is skimmed over rediculously quickly leaving you no time to think or take it in. I mean the story set out in the book isn't all that great anyway and the insights are definitely the stars of the piece. So to pay so little attention to them in the movie is just daft.
The acting isn't bad but the settings for the scenes are nowhere near as realistic or beatiful as they were in my head when reading the book. I think the low budget is partly to blame for this, although a high budget may still not have cut it.
The only way this film would have succeeded is if it could have represented the insights in a clear and easy to understand way, with time taken to explan each one. It just leaves you very confused and needing, but unfortunately not neccessairly wanting, to read the book.
Overall this is a poor and pointless film, just read the book, it is infinitely better.
Conversations With God
This is a wonderful film, would have been nice if it had been a little longer but really did enjoy it. It does make you think "Does this kind of thing really happen?" Hope there's a follow-on because I'll be wanting to see it.
Good
After watching this DVD, I was motivated to read the book because it seemed that the movie touched on something profound yet did not dwell on it. This movie is good as a way of introducing the Insights but one needs to read the book to understand the insights more clearly. The DVD put less emphasis on the insights and more on the adventure, the violence etc, it should have been the other way. If I could remake the film, I certainly would include less of the violent scenes and more of the energy ones.
