Synopsis
When Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murrary) and his Columbia University colleagues (Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson) are kicked out of their prestigious academic posts, they start a private practice as professional ghost-catchers. Although the three parascientists are idle for awhile, their television advertisements finally pay off when beautiful Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) contracts them. It seems her apartment has become the entryway for ghastly ghosts and goofy ghouls hellbent on terroriSing New York City. Soon they're going to her rescue, trying to rid the city of the slimy creatures. GHOSTBUSTERS hit US screens in June of 1984 and went on to become one of the most successful comedy films of all time, spawning a sequel and a popular animated series.

Features and Tech details
One of the finest films ever gets the full blu ray treatment. The picture is pretty good since the film is now 25 year old and the sound is above average.
The film hasn't aged at all and stands the test of time. They just don't make films like this anymore. The acting and script is comedy at it's best. The Features while some of them are on the original DVD release there is enough extras added to justify getting the blu ray realease.
Since Amazon haven't lited the extras in full yet here goes.

fuzzy rubbish
let me start with a side story...
I couldnt resist getting Monty Python's Life of Brian when it came out on Blu Ray. Many thought I was mad for getting a 1970's film on high def but they were wrong. The colour was amazing and comparing it to the DVD really made me wonder how I ever sat through it before without needing glasses...
Now fast forward to Ghostbusters. I dont want to go on but I am HUGE ghostbusters fan... from begging my mum to rent the film every week to rushing home from school to watch the cartoon and then onto a few hours of playing with the toys when I were but a lad and the DVD gets a good play every now and again as the piece of ledgend it truly is. When The BLu Ray appeared for pre order I was first in the queue. Unwrapped it and forced it into the player and then........
Its almost like someone recorded if off sky 1 using a scart cable or a dodjy tuning on the TV which just needs a nudge to the left or right to make it crystal clear. Its a classic case of the quality being far to good for its own good. It shows it to be a 25 year old film which has recieved none of the much coveted "Digitally Mastered Audio and Video".
Now I know this is sad but since getting the Blu Ray player I am constatly amazed at how you can count the strands of hair on someones head or see the texture of the carpet. (very sad but its HD after all). The only thing this film in its current Blu Ray shows is it needs a bloody good clean up.
I started watching it again tonight with the commentairy but reaslied that it is either the exact same as the DVD or they just talked about the same things at the same time.
Now remember how big a Ghostbusters fan I said I was earlier? Remember that when I say STICK WITH THE DVD. Your optitions bill will cost you alot more after watching this pointless transfer.
Kudos to Amazon for keeping it a decent price but whoever made this needs to be forced to watch the life of brian to be shown how pre 2000's Blu Rays need to be handled.
The film as allways remains a comedy masterpiece and should (in my opinion) be taught in schools to A level standard but the Blu Ray needs to be burnt.
A review from someone who actually has the disc
Unlike the other reviewers, I actually have the disc in my possession (no pun intended) and I can say without hesitation that it's a great success. I'm sure some people will be disappointed by the amount of grain on display, but it is a fair representation of the look of the film and the audio breathes new life into the on-screen events. Thankfully Sony has delivered the goods when it comes to the extras as well, with the 'Slimer Mode' a particular highlight. If you're a fan of the film then this is a 'must have' disc, but everyone else should give it a go as well, if only to be reminded of how great family movies were in the 80s.
