Customer Reviews

From a fellow aspiring storyteller...5
Everyone has a story to tell, be it the most insignificant detail or the grandest scheme. Craig Thompson's latest work tends towards the former, but by doing so is adding to the bigger picture of him being one of the most influential artists/authors working on graphic novels to date.

Craig Thompson's Blankets (an account of his youth, a story considered fiction) was like a mesh screen to his soul - very much visible, but there are little things in the way for us to see him fully. In Carnet De Voyage, he doesn't have to hide behind that screen of fiction anymore - we get to see him as he truly is - and it was worth the wait.

Whoever has ever been travelling will know that you will always see something that nobody else notices. That is the wonder of visiting different cultures - you will end up with an impression of it similar to many, but identical to none. By noting the little things that one notices, and in his own perception, Craig Thompson makes his diary/sketchbook that much more emotionally involving. As always his artwork is of the highest quality, giving his account a tangible sense of the moments he experienced; he makes you feel exactly what he felt at that time. In a sense, he is your eyes, ears and heart through Morocco, Spain and France. I defy anybody to read this book and not want to travel on their own, searching for their muse. Recommended for anyone in love with art, travelling and living life. Essential to Craig Thompson fans, those in search of something, and most importantly to those who carry burdens through life. He shows that none of us are alone in that.

Who would have thought that a scrapbook could be this exciting? We follow the authiors journey through europe and Morocco, and his thoughts on meeting friends and new acquintances, with small illustrations conneting the episodes. Excellent reading slow and enjoyable.
