Chinese Elm are excellent plants to choose for beginners at bonsai and make great Christmas gifts for that reason - with a predictable growth pattern and being very forgiving when pruned. The easiest of all bonsai to care for. These trees have wonderful shape and excellent leaf pads. The Chinese Elm an indoor tree, where it stays evergreen all year round. The small, leathery, dark green leaves, smooth and shiny on top. Being quite versatile plants, they can be kept in a position of shade to full sun, but make sure that the plant receives some shade during the hotter months and does not dry out. This set includes the following items; 1 x Humidity/drip tray, 1 x 250ml Bottle of bonsai liquid feed, 1 x 120mm Bonsai scissors, Care sheet. Due to the amount of these we sell we cannot list and photo all the different trees we have in stock so the tree you will receive will not be the one pictured........but it will be just as nice (or even nicer if your lucky!!)

Bonsai...
This item is being sold as a shaped bonsai, and at £30 I would expect a small tree, but one that has been trained as it says.

Despite arriving with a tray that was too small for the glazed pot the tree was planted in, the tree branches appeared to sag from a lack of training. I don't mind training a tree, but the trunk was rather misshapen too, something that cannot be corrected.

I have since acquired a cheaper tree which is smaller but a better starter tree, to maintain alongside this one.

My advice to anyone serious about buying bonsai, is to see the tree in person and not risk an online sale, and definitely don't let any bonsai seller tell you that for a cheap tree of £30 (!) you should settle for whatever arrives.
