Learn to distinguish between Happy or Sad?5
My 2 years old daughter loves this book, she learnt to distinguish between happy or sad/not happy from the facial expression of the fish. She keeps saying, "Smiley Shark not happy, mummy." It is a simple, easy to understand story with a happy ending. Just the right length for a 2 years old who is totally engrossed by the lovely pictures and vibrant colours. This is one of her favourite book that we read it all the time.

Smiley Shark just wants to join in the underwater fun in another super fishy tale5
from Ruth Galloway in the 'Fidgety Fish' series.

From the back cover:-

'Smiley Shark may be the biggest fish in the ocean but he is also the friendliest and the funniest - and by far the smiliest!
So why won't the other fish let him join in their games?'

The Little Tiger Press version measures in at approximately 26 cm x 23 cm, with appealing paperback covers opening to 30 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format.

Example of the lively and descriptive text :-

'Far away, in a deep rolling ocean, lived Smiley Shark...the smiliest and sunniest, the friendliest and funniest, the biggest and toothiest of all the fish.

Every day Smiley Shark watched the beautiful fish that dipped and dived and jiggled and jived, and darted and dashed with a splosh and a splash.....'

Enhanced text (capitalised in places FOR EFFECT), makes this a great story for those who like a bit of adventure and allows the younger members of the audience to join in shouting SWOOSH! and SPLISH, SPLASH!
But much as he longs to join in, Smiley finds he isn't welcome as his oceanic colleagues make quite clear by escaping his huge smile in whatever way they can! Smiley soon realises the reason is no laughing matter.....until......his huge white pearlies ARE just the thing needed as he finally puts his talent to a real test, and wins!

The superb illustrations are, as always, enhanced by meaningful facial expressions, and offer great scope for further discussion - e.g. feelings.
Older children also pick up additional information without realising - e.g. using superlatives and Pufferfish's defence mechanism!

Another super story from this popular series of books which includes:-

Fidgety Fish
Tickly Octopus
Clumsy Crab

and, my overall favourite:-

Fidgety Fish and Friends, with its glittery enhancements!

SMILEY SHARK : BOOK with CD VERSION:-

'Complete story with original music and sound effects'.

Safely enclosed in a plastic CD envelope on the flap at the back of the book, the CD runs for just over 15 minutes.
After quite a long musical run in, when I have experienced some fidgeting(!), the story is well narrated by CRAIG KELLY, with HELEN LEDERER doing the collective voice, for 'the fish'.
The music is twisty-twirly at times and reasonably dramatic, when required, suitably enhancing the narration.
The story is read through completely in the first half, at a good pace, then the opportunity to read-along is given on the second half of the CD, with a page turn sound and suitable delay to help younger reader/listeners.

Great book5
This book was for my 3 year old son, and he has enjoyed it - though it isn't his favourite book.
It is full of lovely bright pictures and it brings a lovely story of how the shark helps free the other sea creatures from a fishers net - even though they all avoided him when he wanted to play.....I'm hoping Isaac will enjoy this when he's a bit older.
