Don't buy the cheap alternatives
I've just bought one of these for my G10 and it works fine. It seems expensive for a battery but from experience I know that it's worth it. The life of the NB-7L is actually quite good especially if you turn off things like the LCD and constant focussing.
Cheap alternatives can damage your camera and sometimes don't even work. I had some that were so badly made they didn't even fit in a previous Canon Ixus. Only buy genuine Canon batteries.
Genuine Canon
Genuine Canon batteries are always reliable. I have been caught out by substitutes in the past and now only use genuine ones.
