Synopsis
On the 26th of March 2005, "Doctor Who" returned to our screens after an absence of 16 years, with a new Doctor, a new assistant and thirteen thrilling new adventures. This book collects together the entire shooting scripts for the first series. Seven of the scripts are by Russell T Davies, with the remainder by Steven Moffat, Robert Shearman, Paul Cornell and "The League of Gentlemen's" Mark Gatiss. Each story contains the essential ingredients of time travel, adventure, and the mixing of the ordinary with the fantastical that have always characterized the series, while at the same time being thoroughly in tune with contemporary culture and society. This is a "Doctor Who" for an age defined by irony, technology and celebrity, and the shadow cast by 9/11. It is also a more cinematic series, with fast cutting and special effects that will satisfy viewers brought up on contemporary film and television sci-fi. The shooting scripts give a unique insight into how the series was visualized and acted. Alongside the exciting action sequences and dialogue are hints about the characters' emotions, and evocations of the settings in which their adventures take place.

Pacey, atmospheric and thoroughly absorbing, these scripts practically read like novels. Each of the scripts will be illustrated with full-colour screen grabs, ensuring the book appeals to broad audience. Introductions by the writers will explain the inspirations for the new series and the fascinating process of creating a "Doctor Who" script. As the one book that ties directly into the new series, this is a must-have self-purchase or Christmas gift for all "Doctor Who" fans.

Some of the best popular TV writing ever5
Russell Davies' regenerated Dr Who has been a triumph not only of nostalgia but of new beginnings.

Not content with merely bringing the Time Lord back to the small screen with a big budget, Davies sidestepped the obvious error and made sure that the scripts outshone the CGI at every turn. Delivered by a superb ensemble cast, headed up in series 1 by Christopher Eccleston as a stark loner plagued by survivor guilt, the new episodes were miracles of economic but stylish drama.

Devoid of sentiment but packed with emotion, they scared us rigid, built characters we cared about and still found time to take apart the vanities of 21st century culture - from reality TV and makeover shows to the Blair regime's paranoid obsessions with identity and security.

Here's hoping the BBC will publish the scripts from the next two series.

the best book for dr who!5
I really enjoyed reading the scripts because I totally love dr who. It's my fave book of the year 2006. [I love it so much I read it most of the time!] I hope the next script book will be just as cool as this one!.

A new Doctor5
This book is a "must have" for any DOCTOR WHO fan. The scripts are well written, with attention given to plot and character development. Not quite the Doctor(s) from the classic series, this new Who works very well in the 21st century. With over 1,000 stills, this book is a great companion & introduction to the new series.
