More and more employees are having to sit psychometric tests as part of the interviewing process. On paper, a personâ²s skills and experience may perfectly fit the job description, but the employer also wants to know things about the individualâ²s personality: for example, their weak and strong points; whether they will fit in with the department; whether they can retain information quickly; and whether they have management potential or whether they will always require supervision.
This book is designed to help the individual master taking psychometric tests, and help them decide, before applying for a job, what their individual personality type is â extrovert, emotional, creative or assertive. Working through the tests will give the reader the ability to improve their skills in the key areas of lateral thinking, problem solving, and intelligence, and the book also provides a guide to assessing performance.
â Familiarity with the type of questions set in psychometric tests will give readers an idea of what to expect, and will help them relax in a test situation
â Authors are experts in psychometric and IQ testing and have written over 94 books on all types of tests
â More and more employers are using psychometric testing at interview â including government, education, industry, armed forces and commerce. There is a real need for this type of book to guide the potential employee through the structure of psychometric tests
Ken Russell and Philip Carter first met in 1984 through their membership of Enigmasig, a special interest group within British Mensa devoted to the setting and solving of puzzles. From the Back Cover
Despite the enormous capacity of the human brain, we only utilise on average two per cent of our potential brainpower. There is therefore enormous potential for us to expand our brainpower considerably and regular testing is a key method of doing just that.
Included in this book are 40 brand new psychometric tests and two intelligence tests. The psychometric tests cover such subjects as riskâtaking, leadership, positivity, aggression, tact, ambition, tolerance and imagination. The intelligence tests use word and number puzzles, maths and diagrams to test your spatial, verbal, numerical and logical ability to the limit. There are nearly 1,000 individual questions in all. Scores and answers to all the tests are included.
Use this and other books in the IQ Workout Series as a fun and informative way of testing, assessing, and expanding your brainpower! These books are suitable for anyone from 18 to 80 who wants to put themself to the test. Ken Russell and Philip Carter have written nearly 100 books on all aspects of testing, puzzles and crosswords.
Customer Reviews
Disappointed
I read this book hoping it would give me clear direction as to how to improve.
Unfortunately, the selection of the multi-choice options were too obvious for my test to be accurate - ie If doing the "Are you Sensual" test, it became obvious that all options 1 of the 3 options (YES, DON'T KNOW AND NO) would give you maximum marks.
The option "Don't Know" is a superfluous one in many instances. eg do you bet on horses regularly (in the "Are you Optimistic Test"). You either do or you don't.
This was irritating.
Poor book badly designed.
This is fun, but a complete waste of time
I purchased this book at the airport hoping to pass the many long hours on a plane by delving deep into my personality and learning new things about my behavioural patterns and what made me tick. As it turned out, all I learned was that I only had the patience to do 4 or 5 tests before becoming irritated at the book.
I found the test topics to be of interest and also found that doing the test itself was a fun process. It is therefore unfortunate that each of the tests leaves the reader wanting for more, giving only a basic outline of what their score means as pertains to their character, personality, intelligence, or whatever topic is in question. After doing 4 or 5 tests I decided that reading my horoscope gives me a better reflection of my character and I was wasting my time going further.
If you are thinking of buying this book as a bit of fun .... don't.
not as good as most pyschometric books
I was really looking forward to completing these tests to find out what type of career i would be best suited to. But i was quite disappointed. Although the book is crammed full of tests, they were not the type of tests that i expected. Such tests as 'are you anxious or relaxed?' and 'are you honourable?' .I expected some information about how well i had done and what to do next, but all you get is a score, no information or suggestions as to what this means in terms of your possible potential in a given area. There was no information at the end of the tests to tell me what type of career i could reach my full potential in. This book is more for fun than for people who are serious about wanting to do psychometric tests to find out what career or job they would be best suited to. Overall i found this book disapointing and somewhat misleading as to what it offered.
