Synopsis
In the year 2012 the Earth awaits a super catastrophe: its magnetic field will turn over in one go. Phenomenal earthquakes and tidal waves will completely destroy our civilisation. Europe and North America will shift thousands of kilometres northwards into polar climate. Nearly the whole earth's population will perish in the apocalyptic happenings. These dire predictions stem from Mayans and Egyptians -- descendants of the legendary Atlantis. The Atlanteans had highly evolved astronomical knowledge and were able to exactly calculate the previous world-wide flood in 9792 BC. They built tens of thousands of mandjits and escaped to South America and Egypt. In the year 2012 Venus, Orion and several other stars will take the same 'code positions' as in 9792 BC, the year of the previous cataclysm! For thousands of years historical sources have told of a forgotten time capsule of ancient wisdom located in a mythical labyrinth of secret chambers filled with artefacts and documents from the previous flood -- this book gives one possible location.

DiaGnosis: Checking the facts destroys the thesis
Briefly, the authors claim that the Egyptian Book of the Dead contains information concerning a catastrophe that happened in 9792 BC, when the earth stopped its rotation and started to rotate in the opposite direction, causing the tidal wave that swamped Atlantis. The knowledge was carried to Egypt, where the Atlantean kings became the gods of Egyptian mythology. The knowledge of the catastrophe, and how to predict its future arrival, was encoded into the texts which were included in the collection known as "The Book of Coming Forth by Day" (the Book of the Dead), but it was primarily guarded for posterity in The Labyrinth, which was purpose-built by the Atlantean descendants as an astronomical observatory. The authors claim that the Labyrinth was not destroyed, as claimed by the Egyptologists, but lies buried at a location they discovered by laying a sky-map over a map of Egypt, (with Giza as the belt of Orion), and projecting the Hyades star-group (known as "the labyrinth") onto the ground.
They also discovered that there was a retrograde loop of Venus in the year 9792 BC, that matches another one in 2012, and after finding it, discovered that the phenomenon was encoded into the Book of the Dead, as an astronomical signal that the catastrophe is at hand...so the forthcoming loop signifies a coming Atlantis-like flood in 2012!
However, their claims don't hold up to investigation! When the constellation of Orion is overlaid on a map of the Giza pyramids, the Hyades are not even in the same direction as the pyramid at Hawara, where the authors say the Labyrinth building is located.
What is more, there are actually 12 retrograde loops of Venus over the Orion constellation, between 1924 and 2012, due to the fact that a loop happens in a different place around the horizon over a period of 8 years, forming a pentagram if the points are joined up...but the start-point of the pentagram moves by about 2.4 degrees each revolution. So, when the 12 loops are compared to the one in 9792 BC, it turns out that the most accurate repetition of the 9792 BC loop is the one that occurred in 1948...with no Atlantis cataclysm just after it!
These facts destroy the whole thesis of the book!

In Defense of Patrick Geryl
In defense of Patrick Geryl, some of the other reviewers of his book, The Orion Prophecy, are critical not only of his book but of his personal character too. They accuse him of trying to profit and to gain notoriety from his thesis, or of being megalomaniacal or self-centered. I don't believe this to be the case at all. Some of this reaction could be in response to the shocking conclusion that Patrick has come to: his research has uncovered many ancient hidden messages that forebode the complete destruction of the world in 2012 due to crustal pole shift. When a person takes a stand to defend a controversial topic, he or she is liable to draw extreme criticism. The messenger can be confused with the message. The curious thing is that if his thesis turns out to be true, he will be associated as a harbinger of death. Pioneers must take a lot of flack from the very people they are trying to liberate. Because of our investments in our homes, families, and statuses, if his thesis turned out to be true it would result in a lot of pain, changes, and tumult. Because it is by no means an easy path, one can see that it would not be one to choose if it were simply for fame or fortune.
My take on Patrick is that he is a sincere researcher who is laying it all on the line for what he has discovered. There are no throngs cheering him on. There are no scientists giving him awards. He is courageously getting the word out in the best way he knows how. He needs the support of others, for if his discoveries turn out to be true, we are headed toward astonishing times!!!! If his warnings are heeded, some might survive to live to see the dawning of a new phase of human existence. Why not do some preparation anyway? After all, another 911 or Katrina or a million people having a Seattle power outage are realities that we must now deal with and they are here now. If you read his book and decide to heed his message and it turns out to be true, you will thank him on behalf of your family and loved ones. If you disagree with him, you will have entertained some new ideas and been stimulated in thinking. Why not live and let live and allow others to express their ideas?
One more thing: there is a sinister possibility that we have been conditioned like in The Matrix to be critical and doubtful of certain messages even though these messages could liberate us. Could a fear-based reaction to this author's work be a result of our having been subliminally programmed to shutdown the very information that could free us? There are at least two precedents for this situation. One was that of a man who got the idea to build a boat in his backyard because he had a dream that the water level was going to rise. Another was a man who was warned that the city he lived in was going to be leveled. He pleaded to spare the city if he could find ten righteous people, but found none. Things were so perverted in the inner city that men came to his door to have sex with his daughters. When he came up out of the city, his wife could not separate herself from the allures of her home and despite being warned not to, she turned to look as the city was razed and she was turned into a pillar of sand by the ground zero blast. Her husband pleaded to not have to take refuge in the mountains because it was one of the things he was the most afraid of. You recognize the men to be Noah and Lot. They were dealing with the same dynamics we are dealing with now.
I have been researching anomalous phenomena since the 1970s. The axis of the Earth has tilted and the Earth is wobbling. The Magnetic North Pole has been moving around. Solar flares are increasing far beyond previous levels. The evidences appear to be favoring the possibility that Patrick Geryl could be correct.
The Orion Dogma
This book states one conclusion after another with no supporting evidence. You read about one tale after another, but the reader cannot assess the potential vailidity of the conclusions for themselves because there is no reasoning given. The mathematics appears to me to be simply playing with numbers until a pattern emerges, which anyone can do if you divide, subtract and multiple something by some chosen numbers enough times.
I hoped I would be enlightened after reading this book, but sadly I am more perplexed by this mysterious subject matter than ever before. My advice would be to try other authors on this subject.
