Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
"Treat Your Own Knees" is a handy, easy-to-use book written by a physical therapist who reviewed hundreds of scientific journal articles and studied their practical applications to find the most simple and effective do-it-yourself treatments for knee pain. It uses drawings and illustrations that clearly depict the correct way to perform the exercises, and the exact muscles responsible for knee pain. The reader will also gain knowledge of how to improve and maintain knee function by enhancing the four crucial abilities every knee must have: muscular; flexibility; responsiveness; and endurance. A chapter is devoted to each of these four abilities, showing what it's role is in maintaining movement and knee health, and why it is essential. The last chapter is a 'master plan' that pulls together all the concepts and exercises into a time-efficient exercise programme.

From the Author
The idea behind "Treat Your Own Knees" is that knee pain is the result of something not functioning properly. Therefore, to get rid of the pain, simply restore the function. And that's exactly the purpose of this book.

All the major functions of your knee, strength, flexibility, endurance, and proprioception, are covered in their own chapter and written in non-medical language. At the end of each chapter you will be given an exercise you can do at home, one that involves no special equipment, to improve that particular function of your knee.

Sound like a lot to read? Don't worry. At 96 pages, I have intentionally made this book short so you can absorb the information quickly and get that knee better as soon as possible- without lengthy chapters containing information that's nice to know but you can't really use. The best part though, is that since we're treating the function of your knee and not a diagnosis, it matters little whether you're an athlete or housewife, construction worker or secretary, because the underlying treatment principle of improving knee function applies equally to everyone!

Based solely on research taken straight from peer-reviewed journals and controlled trials, I think you will find "Treat Your Own Knees" to be a no-nonsense book that is both practical and easy to follow.

Comprehensive and user friendly5
As a physio assistant I think this is a great book. It's strikes a good balance between medical and lay person information.

Best book ever for knee injurys!!5
This book is plain and simple and does exactly what it says on the cover. I've had a knee problem for a while due to age and excessive running but this book really spelt things out so clear that I would imagine physio's everywhere wanting to ban it. It's got to be one of the easiest books to follow and I honestly think that it has probably saved me several trips to see a specialist for sure. I can't recommend this one enough.

'I dont b...... believe it!' Why didnt i find this book years ago?????!!!!. It is a small easy to read book which i skim read within an hour and the one simple exercise (non painful - you need a cushion to do it) and stretches immediately...yes immediately gave me some much needed respite from pain i have had in both knees for years. The author hit the nail on the head straight away by saying most people dont have the time to visit a therapist or just stop doing those things which tend to niggle an old injury. I have just started on a fitness regime and man do my knees give me some jip. But again the simple exercise and stretches helped relieve the pain within the hour.

What the hell, for a few pounds what can you lose, just buy it and try it. Hope it helps you as much as it helped me. Good luck
