Customer Reviews
A small sample of their genius
This album of beautiful jangling power pop contains at least one big UK hit, their version of I Only Want To Be With You. The omission of their other UK top ten hit, So Good To Be Back Home Again, is inexplicable.
In addition, the magnificent Blind Among The Flowers and The Loneliest Man In The World were minor hits. I agree that the rest should have been big hits too, especially Don't Say I Told You So, Angels And Demons and Circular Fever.
The core of The Tourists of course went on to achieve international fame and fortune as Eurythmics, but The Tourists themselves have been neglected and underestimated. There is a certain bittersweet quality to their jangly pop that is quite unique, whilst the melodies are strong and the vocals superb.
Good as this album is, it is unfortunately not comprehensive enough. To experience the Tourists in all their glory, I recommend the Greatest Hits album with its 20 tracks. It includes all of their gems like the aforementioned classics plus In The Morning (When The Madness Has Faded), All Life's Tragedies, Everywhere You Look and So You Want To Go Away Now.
