Amazon.co.uk Review
Although Tomcats Screaming Outside is technically his debut album, Roland Orzabal has been a solo artist in all but name for the best part of a decade. The dominant half of Tears For Fears, Orzabal turned the 1980s pop duo into a one man band after the departure of Curt Smith in the early 1990s, releasing two albums, Elemental and Raoul And The Kings Of Spain. Although "Ticket To The World", "Bullet For Brains" and "For The Love Of Cain"-big chorused, guitar led pop/rock anthems--could happily slot in to either of his post-Curt Smith albums, Tomcats is very much a return to the experimental ways of Tears For Fears' heyday. The dark production and menacing rhythm tracks of "Under Either" and "Hypnoculture", the ambient sway of "Day By Day", the grunge-esque "Dandelion" and the drum & bass of "Kill Love" and "Hey Andy"--all are coupled with contagious melodies and Orzabal's twisted vocals to leave little doubt that the imagination which separated his former band from their peers and made their songs so enduring is still incredibly fertile. Solo album or not, Tomcats Screaming Outside is the best Tears For Fears album in a decade. --Dan Gennoe

GENIUS!!5
I bought this cd about two weeks ago while purchasing a couple of TFF cd's (still updating those old vinyls!!). I only wish I'd been exposed to this at the time of it's release as it is without doubt one of the best albums I've ever purchased - and my collection is VAST, taking in all eras and genres.
I've regarded Orzabal as a genius for a long time but now I regard him as beyond genius!! This album has everything from ballads with heartbreakingly beautiful melodies, to in-your-face rockers, and pretty much all things in between. The opening track hits like a sledgehammer - the first time I played this album I got to the end of the first track and then replayed it before bringing myself to move on to the rest of the cd. The closing couple of tracks are as beautiful as anything you will ever hear - mesmerising. I have played this album from start to finish at least once everyday since I got it and it still blows me away like it did the first time.
At the sort of price this is available for on Amazon, it's a no-brainer. I urge you to buy this album and enhance your life.

It grows on you5
I bought this at the same time that I re-purchased 'Elemental' on CD (I used to have it on cassette). 'Tomcats' is not as immediately likeable as some of Orzabal's previous work, but it certainly grows on you after a few listens. Orzabal has always been versatile, and here you get contrasts of soft numbers like 'Day by Day', dirty rock 'n' roll like 'Dandelion' and the wonderful hypnotic techno of 'Low Life'. I think it's fair to say that he's now totally unshackled from the Tears for Fears name.

Travis and Robbie Williams may be raking in the bucks, but they're not fit to clean Orzabal's shoes. More soon please Roland.

Roland always tries new ideas and changes the formula.5
This album is a fresh and exciting mixture of drum and bass, ambience and rock. From the opening track to the finale it leaves you wanting more. The way he writes is so deep and so heart wrenching and creates an intensity and cocktail of emotions. This is a real departure from 'Raoul' and 'Elemental'. This album did not receive the credit due, but then again, Roland is not really in the business for commercial viability anymore and is more concerned as an artist and writer to create for his own sake and satisfaction. This is a fantastic work from the heart, mind and soul...well done!!!!
