ICEHOUSE SOUNDING COOLER THAN EVER4
There doesn't seem to be a 'best of' around on CD for Icehouse's finest
moments.....i have only recently rediscovered this band, after stumbling
upon some of their videos on youtube....as the previous reviewer says,
and quite rightly so, there's rarely, if ever, a replacement for the
original and best versions - remixes are usually pointless and remove
all the best bits. I fully intend to start buying Icehouse's back
catalogue when i can now, to enjoy all those awesome albums they/Iva
recorded, but meantime, in the absence of a quick 'best of' i decided
to risk this remix album a few weeks ago to whet my appetite. It has
worked. I still prefer the original versions, so don't get me wrong,
but some of these efforts really aren't that bad. Perhaps Iva Davies
himself heard some of these remixes, and agreed that some of them
actually DO do him justice, and thus gave the thumbs up ! However it
came about, i for one am happy enough anyhow - remixes of Street Cafe,
Lay your hands on me, and Icehouse all stand out, and the mix of Hey
Little Girl isn't too bad. For anyone who loves the original versions,
this CD will indeed feel like sacrilege to most, but for the odd few
who might just want to hear those classics pumped up for the dancefloor,
these aren't such bad remixes as those done for bands like, say, Depeche
Mode, whose remixes always seem to totally murder the originals.
So, in summary, for sure, this is risky territory, this album, but for
me personally, a risk i am glad i took. I like it. Now, i look forward
to plugging the gaps in my collection with the original albums. Cheers.

Naff versions of truly great originals2
Forget this one and go get yourself the CD of Flowers, otherwise known as Icehouse by Icehouse. While that CD just reeks of originality and talent, all the great work of Iva Davies is submerged on this chaotic collection of remixes. I'm kind of surprised he went ahead and let this project happen. Still, it shows a generous spirit (unsurprisingly) and I cannot wholly dismiss this CD because obviously his is a seriously rare voice. So, the 2 stars are for his presence on an otherwise pointless set of remixes.
