More than just a b-sides collection, INCESTICIDE culls together Nirvana's work before and around their now-legendary albums. Released between the groundbreaking NEVERMIND and the artsier IN UTERO, the rarities and outtakes which make up this album shed new light on Nirvana's oeuvre, filling in the gaps between official releases and providing fans with a wider variety of recordings from different sources.
Highlights include three covers, taken from John Peel sessions: a Devo tune ("Turnaround") and two songs by Scotland's The Vaselines, whose purposefully vapid pop magic is given the force of a juggernaut, with the minimal production that best showcases the Nirvana's aggressive grace. The famous quasi-live recording conditions of the BBC sessions provide another standout, the surging, desperate "Aneurysm", which remains one of Nirvana's finest recorded moments.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
And so, in the fiscally dark years between Nevermind and the much-delayed In Utero, Geffen Records cobbled together a pile of Nirvana b-sides and out-takes, and were so glad they had something to bleed the hungry grunge-hordes dry with that they allowed Cobain to give it the poisonous title Incesticide. As cash-ins go, it's one of the more essential ones: obviously there simply aren't that many Kurt Cobain songs in existence, and the inclusion of the incredibly rare single "Sliver" and the insanely catchy "Mexican Seafood" will gladden any Nirvana fan's heart. The 50s' pop parody of "Hairspray Queen" reminds us that--hey!--Kurt was a funny guy too, and "Aero Zeppelin" and "Big Long Now" would hardly look out of place on either Nevermind or In Utero. And the liner-notes--a Cobain-penned rant begging all jocks, homophobes, racists and sexists not to buy his records--are a piece of rock history in their own right. --Caitlin Moran
Customer Reviews
I've seen one "Incesticide" review here, and now I got to wright something!
Believe it or not I'm listening NIRVANA-"Incesticide" right now...
As most of the fans (old and new,all-together) already knows this album came after "Nevermind" and before "In Utero". It was something Geffen used to get some $$$ before the next album! But anyway,it was a really good album.
I seen a review of some guy from U.K. and I could not believe what I was reading! This guys favorite songs are:Sliver,Molly's lips, Son of a gun and Aneurysm-that's O.K. But(I think two of five songs aren't Nirvana's)-That is O.K. to.
This was really bad:
"Dive"-the song with the best chorus and vocals on the album-The U.K. guy say:"boring..." !?!
"Stain"-the song that everybody i know likes the most;I think Stain got the strongest main riff that goes on and on - and i never change my mind, the screaming vocals that are just-Wow!!! The U.K. guy say: similar to Dive...slightly worse (what a ... !?!)
And what really makes me angry:
His "Bad Tracks":
-Beeswax
-Mexican Seafood
-Hairspray Queen
I think his choice of (any choice of) the songs is BAD-BAD-BAD!
Mexican Seafood isn't really a masterpiece but this album represents songs like Mexican Seafood and Hairspray Queen and of course the Beeswax(just listen to it few times.Music is great but try to understand the lyrics, look it on the Internet...).The Beeswax is actually the best song on the album-together with Aneurysm,Hairspray Queen,Stain,Aero Zeppelin... That is...-Those songs are the sound of Nirvana...!
-So,if you have every official Nirvana album-You definitely should buy the "Incesticide"...There are great songs just waiting to be heard!
(I rated the album 3 stars,but it's actually 3.5 -for Nirvana album)
And again believe it or not this was actually my first Nirvana album- I got it for a some low price back in 1996... Peace!
Raw as hell
i went out on a limb and bought this one, its good if your in the right mood and want to here what nirvana were realy about before 'Nevermind' in some places it does descend a bit far into a groan and a mire of distortion but thats only in a couple of places generally good with some great bits like 'Aero Zeppelin' and 'Aneurysm' breat peice of history for a tragic band.
Good if you are interested in Nirvana, but NOT easy listening
Raw and Passionate
I have always been a huge fan of Nirvana. I actually consider their first album (Bleach) and their last album (In Utero) to be much better than Nevermind. Incesticide is stripped down Rock and I think it reflects who Kurt Cobain truly is and wanted his music to sound like.
Buy it!
