Product Description

Hall & Oates, once synonymous with trendsetting, radio-friendly eighties pop music, join forces again after years of mostly solo experimentation. The result is an exciting comeback album of pure pop which is occasionally reminiscent of theduo's best early-eighties hits, but which also incorporatesnew sounds. Check out the exotic, Indian-influenced percussion on "Marigold Sky", Dave Stewart's Eurythmic-style wailing guitar on "Romeo is Bleeding" and "Love Out Loud", and thehints of hip-hop rhythms scattered throughout. This is Hall& Oates nineties style, turning their smooth, soul-flavoured harmonies in a more contemporary direction. The lyrics of "Time Won't Pass Me By" seem especially appropriate: "I think the sun was in my eyes/This time the time won't pass me by/Lucky on the second try/This time the time won't pass me by".

Customer Reviews

a "must have"5
any Hall & Oates fan must have this cd. There is some wonderful stuff on here, stand outs are "romeo is bleeding", "the sky is falling"; "promise ain't enough" and the brilliant " throw the roses away". The latter is one of the best songs they have ever done, with some beautiful sax.It sounds a little like "the end of the road" by Boys2Men. As is usual Hall dominates, singing nearly all the songs. I love his voice, but I really like Oates' voice too and would like him to sing lead a bit more. That is my only criticism of a great album.

Did you miss this one?4
I hadn't realised (until Daryl Hall told me and 3,000 other people at the London Apollo) that this album had been put out on their own label, and that consequently many Hall & Oates fans might not have added it to their collection.
If that's the case, I would recommend that you make up for lost time and buy this album.

There is a good mix of tunes - all typical H&O stuff - including the ballad "If a promise ain't enough", which is as fine as any from their previous works.

It's not the funkiest or most soulful Hall & Oates collection but I doubt that fans of this durable duo will be disappointed.
