Product Description

Approaching the new millennium, Marilyn Manson shows himself to be standing squarely at the crossroads of the past and future of popular music. MECHANICAL ANIMALS takes the crunchand shock of '70s glam rock and mates it with the automatedpings and electronic sheen of artists such as the Dust Brothers and Danny Saber (who both appear on this album). Manson's knack for going light years beyond Alice Cooper's brand of shock rock starts with the packaging itself. On it, the freaky Floridian appears as an asexual being with flaming red eyes and hair (whose appearance is not unlike a cross between David Bowie's Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs characters).
The music itself not only assaults the senses but a variety of targets as well. Naturally enough, the Religious Right is a convenient whipping boy ("Rock Is Dead"), as are back-stabbers ("Speed Of Pain") and the beast that is the media ("New Model No. 15", "The Dope Show"). When Manson isn't smashing you in the mouth with a crashing wall of guitars and newwavey synths, his instincts lead him into late-Floydian nihilism ("The Speed Of Pain") and hi-NRG ditties tailor-made for an imaginary sci-fi disco ("Posthuman", "I Want To Disappear").

Amazon.co.uk Review
There's no question that Marilyn Manson's 1995 album Antichrist Superstar was a great-sounding record. It brooded, ripped, and clattered in all the right places, mixing industrial beats and samples with roaring heavy-metal riffs, echoing Goth keys, and the occasional tuneful pop vocal. But for all the sonic appeal, some of the song-writing wasn't too strong. No such problem on Manson's new record, Mechanical Animals, which forsakes some of the band's former grind in favour of dynamic glam rhythms and good old-fashioned melody. When the band tones down, as on the largely acoustic "Speed of Pain" and "Fundamentally Loathsome", Manson even sounds like a candidate for an Unplugged session. Most often, however, as on "Rock Is Dead", "User Friendly", and "The Dope Show", Mechanical Animals is a brash, decadent, and glittery display of self-indulgent hooks and melodramatic vocals that sounds like Aladdin Sane-era David Bowie and T. Rex at their most boisterous crossed with the more modern sounds of today's industrial nation. --Jon Wiederhorn

Awesome.5
Only songs on here I don't care for are Rock Is Dead (bleh bleh bleh, boring - also, aren't later efforts Disposable Teens and mOBSCENE damn near identical to this one? Ah well) and Fundamentally Loathsome. Other than that, I love every single track. This has to be one of the sexiest, best-sounding records I've ever heard, with some of the best damn angst-ridden lyrics ever committed to CD.

Stands The Test Of Time5
What can i write that somebody wont of already said. One of the most controversial artists of our times, not only for his appearance and brutal onslaught at the mainstream and religious groups... but also for dividing public opinion on his music. Some idolise the man as a god, others simply shrug him off as another decadant amatuer wearing too much make up.

Well, like him or not, I would say that anyone who could dismiss this album as a pile of garbage has to have some incredibly defunct ears. Of all his material, I would argue this to be the best. Even 10 years on it still sounds every bit as glittery and cynical as it did back then, and is surprisingly relevant. Anyone looking for a masterpiece, look no further.

fantasticly done.... His darkest ever.5
This is quite easily the best work from Manson.Allthough it cost him fans and caused him rejection, from a goth crowd. When it's easily his darkest bleakest darkest gothic reccord but at the same time his most sleazy and glam because it's split between Maralyn manson...a dark alien figure whos haunted by what would appear to be thing or fabtasy woman called "Coma White"..and he provides the bleak dark deppression of this album with his distain with the world.
Then we have Omega and the mechnical Annimals...his alter ego..a drugged up Sleaze/glam rock band..with drug fulled party anthems with clear gothic/industrial leanings.
Standout songs being..."Great big white world","New model No.15",
"Mechanical Annimals","Dissacociative","Posthuman","last day on earth" and of course the most beautiful song he's ever written "Coma white".As you can see the better songcome from the Manson chracter..but songs like "The Dope show" and "Rock is dead" from Onega are good too.
