With EDEN, Broadway diva Sarah Brightman ("Requiem", "Cats") stretches beyond the constraints of what's considered showmusic. Here, she sings an assortment of classical adaptations, rock, and sleek modern pop songs.
The entrancing opener, "In Paradisum" combines pre-recorded nature sounds, atmospheric textures, and echoes of Gregorian chant, setting theregal and eclectic mood. "Nella Fantasia" is an adaptation of a tune by movie soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone, withItalian lyrics by Ferrau, and here the exquisite longing inBrightman's voice transcends all language barriers. She transforms Kansas' philosophical hit "Dust in the Wind" into a theatrical ballad that transcends time or setting. The production is lavish, judiciously mixing lustrous, gently throbbing modern pop textures, and conventional orchestration in a way that showcases the songs and the singer without being obtrusive or maudlin.

A lovely album from Sarah!
This is a lovely selection of songs from Sarah Brightman - beautifully packaged in one of the most attractive pieces of artwork used for the cover of the CD. This could be a little deceptive into misleading people into believing that this whole album is 'classical' , but there is a mixture here, but for the main, this does contain more songs where Sarah is able to utilise her beautiful soprano voice to its greatest potential. 'Anytime, Anywhere' is a great example of this - along with 'Il Mio Cuore Va' (Italian version of Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On')
Some beautiful songs here, and several that will sound familiar to many - a couple of my personal favourites are: 'Bailero' (which I've heard sung often by other artists on Classic FM and adored, and so this is an added bonus for me to have Sarah Brightman sing it!) and 'Nella Fantasia' (in my opinion, Russell Watson sings this better than anyone) which is one of two songs that I believe are not women's songs - the other being 'Nessan Dorma' (and incidentally - has nothing to do with football!) but nevertheless, Sarah sings them beautifully here.
Two of the most beautiful songs on the album are: 'Un Jour Il Viendra' and 'Scene D'Amour' and whoever chose these numbers, chose well (artistes do not always get to choose which songs should go on an album)
Five Stars for this and no doubt about it!
OMG!!!
The Angel of Music's best album so far. It has that incredible eclectic mix, a gorgeous confection of classical and pop which showcases her 'infinite variety' of vocal styles which makes her unique. POTO is in the news. Most people know Sarah from this show. And little else. Check out her subsequent career...you will be gobsmacked!!
Has to be one of Sarah's best
It is hard to rank Sarah's albums as they are all so very different and well performed but Eden just has a certain extra magical appeal. I found the songs very soothing and very beautiful, just the thing to relax to and float away into your own world. Included on this CD is a version of 'My Heart Will Go On' which was sung by Celene Dion for Titanic. Sarah gives her own special touch to this song and brings its true beauty into the light. Another song to listen out for is Nessun Dorma from Turandot. Generally sung by a tenor like Pavarotti I was not sure if a female voice could do justice to its power but how wrong I was! Sarah again adds her touch to it and faithfully brings out its amazing power which takes your breath away. Her voice is truly stunning, going from innocently childlike to an opera diva. A well thought out CD with a perfect blend of songs. Really does take you into Eden!
I also recommend her concert 'Eden' which features some of these songs along with others so you can see the Angel of Music working her magic live!
