Amazon.co.uk Review
Brutish, yet cuddly in a "good-on-them" sort of way (step forward, please, gravel-throated Vlad The Impaler look-alike Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister), the moderation-eschewing and altogether noisy Motorhead are already one of the most heavily anthologised bands in British rock history. However, this 2-CD Silver Jubilee set (so that's why they've covered the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen") is the only compilation to traverse their entire 25-year-long wayward career path. Not that much has changed along the way. Through the years, they've remained 100 per cent Heavy Metal--not for them the flimsy compromise of the MTV Unplugged set, the live concert with the Boston Symphony Orchestra or the acid-house remix. Motorhead have, save a brief unfortunate fling with Brian Robertson's flange-pedal, remained forever true to their ferociously brawny 1977 blueprint (road-drill drumming, bass rumbling, the lurid espousal of hard booze, card games, womanising and death-by-recklessness). Totally comprehensive in its coverage of old ground ("Bomber", "Ace Of Spades", "Overkill", etc), there's also fresh bait on offer for completists in the shape of four previously unreleased live tracks from the early 1980s. --Kevin Maidment END

DOES THIS GUY NEVER DIE?
Lemmy,
O ye of the thundering vocals and warts. The god of both bass and gravel swilled throat swellings. O ye of the miraculous doings!!
Ok folks so really nothing new here I guess. Just a load of old Motorhead Tracks. For those of us who were growing up when this band was around then we will know exactly what to expect. But for those of you who have never given Lemmys own unique blend of heavy metal a try then do please please give this album a go.
I think it would probably be safe to say that Motorhead was in the late seveties and early eighties what Black Sabbath were earlier on. The band is a true Metal Group of the highest distinction. Here you will hear all the best tracks from Philphy Phill Taylor, Wurzel, Fast Eddy Clarke, Phil Campbell etc. Buy it and enjoy....but never take Lemmy seriously. The man has made a fortune out of not taking himself seriously. Just listen to his tender vocal quality and wonder if your own vocal chords could reach such heighs. Also the stunning and brilliance of Philphy Phill as he gently drums away in the background and of course the well chosen, styled playing of the great Fast Eddie Clark. JUST DONT TRY THIS AT HOME YOUR PARENTS WILL HATE YA!
Classic...
Ok, so they're not Iron Maiden...but Motorhead will always be THE classic heavy metal band of the 80's (or preferably the 70's). There's just something about Lemmy's vocals which excite me and make me want to carry on listening (or in other words, headbanging) and the fast drumming and hard riffs.
In my opinion, they are the greatest biker band ever...sorry Judas Priest, you get second place!
Best tracks include Ace of Spades and No Class.
Overkill of a career
With Bomber, Overkill and Ace of Spades, Motorhead should have then disbanded in a blaze of glory. Sadly, the band have become extremely bloated and tired sounding.
Don't get me wrong, most of CD1 is excellent, but then that covers their peak from 1977-1981 mostly. There are a few leftover tracks from the Newcastle shows that made up the "No Sleep Til Hammersmith" live album of 1981, so for collectors it's possibly worth shelling out the price for. But come off it, anyone who can't see that Motorhead should have disbanded 20 years ago is kidding themselves. Loads of the riffs just sound exactly the same as they did in the late 70s. Whilst the sleeve may proudly boast that it covers the whole 25 years of Motorhead's career, it's very noticeable to see how many of the tracks come from the 1977-1981 period, even on CD2. And Orgasmatron has to be one of the most overrated songs of all time, the only thing even more overrated is Sepultura's cover of this song.
In all honesty, you're much better off just getting the first few albums of Motorhead's career (Bomber, Ace, Overkill, Sleep). The rest is just turgid.
