Amazon.co.uk Review
Since America's Volume Dealer sounds a lot like alternative metal, the unfamiliar might think they are bandwagon jumpers. But COC were among the first to explore the myriad connections between metal and punk/hard-core when they opened for thrash acts in the heyday of the 1980s metal underground. But since like-minded (albeit more commercial) bands like Soundgarden and Faith No More have come and gone, perhaps COC's day has finally come. In fact, America's Volume Dealer is an incredibly high-quality piece of work that exhibits range, musicianship and confidence. If they occasionally sound a bit like Alice in Chains, remember this: Corrosion of Conformity helped create that sound. --Genevieve Williams

refreshing southern funk metal with a passion
COC, in my opinion, are one of the greatest bands around tthese days and this album proves it. From the passionate opener 'over me' to the hyper groove of 'congratulation song', along with some of the best heartfelt melodies i've heard, this album is simply a must for any fan of the whole southern genre
Superb
I first discovered Pepper Keenan through Phil Anselmo's cult supergroup Down, in which he takes the role of lead guitarist in a spectacular 5 piece. Eager to find more of the same heavy, Southern based riffs i discovered Jimmy Bower's Eyehategod, obviously Phil and Rex's Pantera, and Pepper Keenan's Corrosion of Conformity.
Of several COC albums, i found this, their newest release, to be the one that offers the most. Keenan not only plays guitar (and man he plays it well), he sings and with an intensity and true feeling that is up there with even the vocals of his good friend, James Hetfield (of Metallica fame, who also contributed to an earlier COC album, "Wiseblood").
The vocals, like i said, are crisp and definetly one of the highlights, but the true backbone of this album are the killer riffs and beats that ring with a Southern taste throughout. There is a good variety in there too. There are wickedly heavy tracks on offer such as "Over Me" and "Congratulations Song", or some mellow tunes like the outstanding "Stare Too Long" or "13 Angels".
However, for me anyway, the two Standout tracks on this album are the brilliantly performed "Diablo BLVD", and the absolutely killer riff of "Who's Got The Fire?"
Definetly an overlooked band with bags of talent, i simply can't wait for their next offering. Pure rock, fully deserves five stars!
great! :-)
this must be up there with the top great cd ever, top music great guitars and also deep & meaningfull lirics, great! get it now (and make the people happy)
