Bargain introduction - maybe all you need.
At the price you just can't complain - the sound quality is good to very good and even if you only like half the material or look elsewhere for some of the works, this is still a huge bargain.

bargain intro to Tchaikovsky
As a recent convert to the music of Tchaikovsky, having heard some of the recent BBC season, this CD is a wonderful introduction to his Symphonies and a great antidote to "Everyone's a Fruit and Nutcase", which was my previous impression of this great composer. It may not be the ultimate recording or interpretation, but what do you expect for the price?! I'm still to discover the "inaudible" bits. Buy the collection and treat yourself to additional recordings when you discover your favourite pieces.

Outstanding Bargain- Snap up, wherever found
As box sets go, you'd need to be very stingy indeed not to find this a bargain of the best kind. These are not analogue re-issues, but recent digital recordings, with committed orchestral playing and good sound quality ( if you want to check out the musical pedigree of the BSO, listen to Silvestri's live recording of the Manfred Symphony with them on BBC Legends. Compare and contrast.)
Litton gives compelling performances. Recommended.
