Amazon.co.uk Review
Current darlings of the nu-skool breaks scene, Plump DJs are the perfect choice to kick-start this new, Urban Underground mix series. Already established as talented beat-mongers in their own right, the duo's slick, precise style and obvious love for all things electro imparts this collection with all the energy and power you'd expect from over an hour's worth of twisted breakbeats and gut-wrenching bottom end. From the outset the pace is relentless, Arthur Baker's remixed "Put The Needle On The Record" an apt and lively starting point, while Soul Of Man's "Killa Brew" is exactly that and more--an intoxicating ride through clipped and time-stretched samples all kicking for position against a giant digi-dub bassline. It's not all this polite though. The Plump's own "Big Groovy Fucker" hits you square on the jaw, Only Kismet's "Gameboy" bleeps and throbs its way thorough junglist heaven and Freestylers' mighty "Now Is The Time" bounces along like an elastic band plucked to the rhythm of cardiac arrest. Climaxing with the "we're not worthy" acid house classic "Stakker Humanoid" (another Plump remix), this is the stuff of great nights out. --Paul Tierney
Customer Reviews
An excellent mix by the Plumps
I can't understand why I haven't bought this sooner. I saw the cover and was put off, but you can't judge a CD by it's cover and the Plump DJs definitely deliver again. If you like their other stuff, then you will definitely enjoy this. For me, it was more like FABRICLIVE.08 than Lotion or Night Out, because the mix is very eclectic. Containing some of my other favourite artists like Mint Royale, Freestylers, Lee Coombs and Meat Katie it has to be played at an appreciative volume. Definitely weld this one to my CD player for a while.
High quality mix with some great samples
High quality breakbeat, deep, dark dirty. This compilation caught my attention straight away and managed to hold it for the full lenght of both CDs. The inclusion of Zero B: Lock up was a quality choice by the plumps, originally released 1992 I'm to young to remember it from the first time round but subconsciously you know it straigh away. Great samples really make the mix surprising in a nice way. Good music to put on before you go out or when you get back. Overall, High quality stuff from the plumps.
A great intro to breakbeat
I saw the Plump DJ's when they supported Orbital on their recent tour and they were great, so I thought I would get this cd. It doesn't dissapoint and tracks like "Scram" are guaranteed to have you jumping about. This is well worth buying if you are new to the breakbeat style and should be played LOUD!
