Amazon.co.uk Review
With older sibling Hefner selling well on the west London imprint, Russ Jones certainly had his work cut out in making a splash with his own full length, The Musing of Monsieur Malloy. Though those already equipped with previously released singles may be a little disappointed with just half of an hour of new music, those yet to tap into the sound of Inertia are sure of a quick seduction with their eminently listenable sound-transcending genre in favour of a detailed examination of the relationship between percussion and bass within orchestral soundscapes. The opening "Trying" typifies Malloy's sound, with beats that hang seamlessly from panoramic atmospheres. "Kubrick" and "Lone Wolf" are equally compelling, though this time using touches of strings to tether loosely defined instrumentation to the groove. --Kingsley Marshall

Monsieur Malloy's the Boy!
From the sporadic percussion of the 'Trying' to the film noir of 'Pecan Butter' there really is very few average moments to this excellent album. Yes, it's really a greatest hits album of 'Victor Malloy' and any collector of Inertia won't find as much as there could have been regarding new material but don't let that put off everybody. Despite that, most people have not heard Inertia's excellent work and will enjoy Monsieur Malloy's smokey, cinematic, jazz-tinged offerings. Anybody who likes Fila Brazilia, Blue States, St. Germain or Groove Armada's more relaxed stuff should warm to this. It's just a shame there isn't more.
Cinematic, atmospheric, Lovely Jazz
Having been a huge fan of the label Inertia, i couldnt wait to get my hands on a copy of this. I was lucky enough to pick up a 12" of the first album track "Trying". This is a beautiful soft samba style tune with a haunting female vocal over the top of double bass and amazingly programmed drums. That just sets the tone for the tracks to come.... Ones that i pick out as having that little bit extra are Lone Wolf Mother Savage parts 1 & 2 Pussy Kubrick 2001.
The last Kubrick track is a dedication to the great film director. As a massive fan of all his films, i thought this was a perfect summing up of Stanley... Lazy drums, chilled piano, excellent programming again and a rather amusing trumbone solo...Wicked stuff., Cant wait for Malloys next offering. It just adds to Inertia's capability of finding, great music. Check out Hefner (not the Indie Darlings) but the real Hefner. Incredible album which will leave you wanting more from these 2 producers.
