Indica Brazilica5
Any attempt to unite the musical styles of two vastly different cultures was always going to be a brave one. Not only does Indica Brazilica manage to pull it off but it also reveals the many similarities between these two vast landmasses. A truly seamless collection, the album effortlessly switches from one atmosphere to the next. At times laid back and uplifting while at others darker and haunting, the selected tracks are not only varied but also seriously eclectic. From the surreal vocals of Nitin Sawhney's 'Homelands' to the soulful house beats of Democustico's 'A Sereia', each track evokes a different emotion in the listener. While some tracks are fast and others slow, each shares the same core as well as a natural reliance on interesting melody. A heavy use of traditional instruments gives the piece an authentic and wholly organic feel. In the hands of lesser producers, the sounds of the sitar and tabla could have sounded clichéd and overstated. Yet, the artists on display here use them in a way that not only respects the sound of such instruments but also brings their ancient heritage right into the 21st century. Although appealing mainly to those who like world music, in reality this should be enjoyed by anyone who appreciates quality recordings.

Not what I expected!4
I heard a random track of this album and was compelled to buy it, as an addict to chill-out and ambient music this seemed a logical step to take to moving on to a new variety of music to drift to... as it happens, after purchasing it and listening i discovered that it was not what i expected. It is a total compilation of all different genres from bollywood-rock to the blissfully chilled out ambience of The Thievery Corporation. I was unpleasantly suprised at first but soon became seduced by the hypnotic beats of the brazilian music and the flowing vocals of the Asian beats. As much as i now enjoy it, it is far from the dreamy chill-out i bought it for.
