Amazon.co.uk Review
"God hates us all" is the cheery message delivered by heavy metal mongers Slayer during War at the Warfields, and with their emphasis on themes such as violence and death, Satanism and necrophilia, this is clearly not a band that will appeal to fans of, say Kenny G. Still, it's a safe bet that none of the thousands who crammed into San Francisco's Warfield Theatre in December 2001 to scream, thrash, mosh and headbang for this 90-minute show went home unhappy. But then, why would they? Loud, fast, ultra-aggressive, relentlessly anti-melodic music doesn't come any harder than this; Slayer's energy is undeniable, as is the catharsis they provide their fans. And if the band (at least bassist-singer Tom Araya) seems to take it all a tad less seriously than their young, hollow-eyed, nihilistic adherents (many of whom are interviewed in a 50-minute documentary featured in the DVD bonus material), well, that's show biz. --Sam Graham

amazing dvd, shame about the fans!
This was bought to me as a present and i think it's amazing, the only thing that lets it down is the commentarys with the fans, who all seem a bit daft. having seen slayer play live on at least 4 occasions i can say this dvd lives up to the experience of seeing them. Slayer always put on a great show, they just come on and do what they do best. with over 20 years experience they know how to come out and play their tunes with the enthusiasm you'd expect them to have in their earlier years. The sound and tightness of this dvd pay justice to that. the variation in tunes from their albums make this a great all rounder for any slayer fan and the quality of the dvd makes your viewing experience all the better. buy this dvd, put it on and play it loud, then appreciate slayer for how great they are!
Yet another fine piece of Slayer art.
For a long time i have wanted a decent Slayer live DVD, and this is it. Filmed in San Francisco during the 'god hates us all' tour, this is truely a work of art. Any Slayer fan will truly appreciate this, the sound quality and camera work are excellent and it is a no frills dvd. Slayer rattle through 20 of their finest tracks and all the classics are there as well as some of their new tracks from the tour album. This is well worth the cost that amazon are offering and I guarantee any Slayer fan or indeed thrash metal fan will not be disapointed by this - a true epic. However your neighbours may not appreciate it though. 5*.
Slaytanic : nothing better
This DVD shows Slayer in their greatest form, with 19 songs, a documentary on the fans, the MTV refused video for 'Bloodline' and a photo gallery.
The songs are all great, Disciple, Stain Of Mind, Raining Blood, Bloodline, War Ensemble, Dead Skin Mask and Angel Of Death being my favourites, but the rest are all superb. It is true that Kerry King cannot be heard as well as Jeff Hanneman, but that is because his sound is much more the bottom end and bassier sound, while Jeff comes out with more mids and treble, more attack. Thsi does mean that you can hear Jeff more clearly than Kerry, but you can still hear Kerry fine in my view.
The documentary is strange, it just shows the midly insane Slayer fans that they come across, with comments from the band as well. The banned video and gallery are worthy entries as well.
Slayer are supreme kings of thrash/speed metal, and this DVD compliments them perfectly. Buy it.
