With its pioneering "power groove" sound, Pantera leapt onto the metal scene of 1990 with the landmark album COWBOYS FROM HELL. The Texan band distinguished itself by offering up a potent mid-tempo version of the typically fast-paced thrash metal style, resulting in a dense, crushing sound that served as a solid foundation for Phil Anselmo's dynamic growl-to-a-falsetto-in-seconds-flat voice.
Although this collection only features five tracks from the early-'90s one-two punch of COWBOYS FROM HELL and VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER, it serves as a good introduction to the band's overall output. Pantera's career from the mid-'90s onward is represented by fierce tracks such as "I'm Broken", "Becoming", "5 Minutes Alone", and "I'll Cast a Shadow", as well as covers of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan" and Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever".

Customer Reviews
Overview Best of Pantera.
Some of the best of Pantera's music. You should realy buy all their cd's if you want the best of Pantera. The Dvd's well cool too.
Missing a few, but a good introduction...
It seems pointless to me to try and promote Pantera to readers of this review, beyond saying that they are absolutely brilliant if you like raw, intelligent heavy metal, and so I shall simply evalute the choice of tracks.
Apart from the lack of The Sleep, I agree almost completely with the selection from Cowboys From hell, Vulgar Display Of Power and Far Beyond Driven, but I think that The Great Southern Trendkill would be better represented by the title track and War Nerve, and maybe Suicide Note Pt2. On the plus side this is worth getting for Pantera fans who already have their albums as it has a couple of other tracks not on the albums.
All in all this is not a must have collection, and misses out on many good album tracks, but is a good starting point for someone who wants to get into Pantera but doesn't want to fork out for all the albums just yet.
Loss of Greatness
This is a time for sorrow, but we must celebrate Dime's life.
The 2 songs mentioned in an earlier review "Immortally insane" was from the texas chainsaw massacre remake Soundtrack, and "the badge" is from the crow soundtrack, which is a very brutal and good song.
