screamcore that can lay you flat out4
ah christian bands,we have our idea of that dont we,we imagine a band that just go on and on about our lord, surely they cant be extreme, yes they can, many regard zao to be most extreme christian band,i say nope to that,i cant imagine a more intense album than this in the genre of screamcore, the screams are enough to make most black metal singers cower under their beds, the guitars spray and sprawl and wreck and you could be forgiven for not listening in one go,its extreme, but its all so good, all so heartfelt, all so intent on destroying the senses, album opener 'Entire World Is Counting on Me, and They Don't Even Know It' just rips straight into you, granted its a hard album to sing along too but its superb and that is what matters

simply blinding5
what a fantastic piece of work! intensely cathartic and aggressive, yet somehow not depressing, merely massively vitriolic. the band's christian roots aren't evident (other than album title) until you look at the very dark lyrics: "Christ is not a fashion, fleeting away." - these guys do have a message to put across, yet it is done in the most abstract of fashions.

the highlight of the album has to be the jaw-dropping "Memphis Will Be Laid to Waste"; worth the price of the entire album in itself.

the music itself is fantastic: i can only compare them to bands like orchid, curl up and die, early will haven, and, on the epic "Pretty Soon, I Don't Know What, but Something Is Going to Happen" and "Organized Beyond Recognition", to the awesome isis. in conclusion, this was up in the top five mega-heavy hardcore albums of '02. i strongly urge you to give this a listen if your poison the well album is starting to sound a little pathetic.

Dirty Southern Hardcore5
i was a bit sceptical of this albumn at first due to the crap name and the fact that they're Christians, but as soon as i heard it i was blown away. This is crushing ear-destroying hardcore in the vein of converge, minus etc but that only tells half the story. Norma Jean have slowed down the noiscore formula and concentrated on huge grooves and grinding mid-tempos with scuzzy, southern style riffs. Vocals are pure rage here, avoiding the generic scream/sing approach many bands are taking. The raw production also captures a really sense of emotion and anger of the songs without sounding cheap or unpolished. There are no real standout songs as the whole albumn is amazing. And the best part? there are no whiney emo parts whatsoever. Get this albumn now
