In Trivium's band photo for ASCENDANCY, the four members sport t-shirts from (early) Metallica, Overkill, Guns N' Roses, and black-metal legends Darkthrone. The odd thing is that no one in the group is old enough to have experienced any ofthe first three bands in their 1980s glory. This doesn't seem to adversely affect Trivium's sound, however, as the bandhas clearly done its homework.
Riding the wave of bands like Shadows Fall and labelmates Killswitch Engage, Trivium bring together the speed of thrash, the melody of classic metal, and the aggression of hardcore in one seamless package.Founder and guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy uses metal-core screams, James Hetfield-esque growls and sing-along melodies to carry the title track. Showing maturity beyond his 19 years, Heafy crafts songs packed with power, precision, solos, and hooks. In the first few bars, "Departure" changes style from acoustic strumming to thrash riffs to full death-metal rage. "Rain" takes a great opening riff and makes it even better with a subtle and unexpected harmonic shift. ASCENDANCYindeed finds this band is headed straight to the top of themetallic heap.

Customer Reviews
Wow this is amazing.
First off i'm sick off people saying Trivium and Bullet for My Valentine arn't real metal just because they dont like 'em, and before people start calling me emo my top 5 bands are Iron Maiden, Slayer, Manowar, Megadeth & Metallica. This is a mindblowing album fair enough if you don't like the shouting through the whole album that's understandable, but i never was really into the whole shouting vocals but this is an amazing album with some killer solos. This album is really heavy aswell and obviously influenced by thrash metal. I have no favourite songs but if i had to pick one it would be Pull The Strings & Declaration they are amazing. The vocalist does have a good range of vocals he has a decent voice. If you do hate the shouting vocals i suggest buying the crusade their new album. Great album Deffinetly recommended
brilliant thats all i need to say.
i read a few reviews, one from one person who commented that this album is an emotional flatliner. im afraid im going to have to disagree for i believe that their music taste is as good as their grammer in their title, this album has a rough heavy beginning with a softer middle and then knocks u back just before the end. it is a fantastic album and has been well thought out. i think we must say to our sceptical friend that i think the album sales tell the truue story of this album and im sure that the band will go on to greater heights.
Phenominal
This is truly the greatest album ever produced but DON'T BUY THIS CD. GET THE VERSION with the bonus DVD....
