Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Love to unearth DISCO's more soulful jewels:
Disco- nut producer and international DJ Joey Negro and fellow crate-digger Sean P come to the rescue with this great value DOUBLE CD rammed to the rafters with over 20 CLASSIC, RARE, HARD- to FIND GEMS from the era that brought us boob tubes, fantastic music and sparkly platforms.
"The Soul of Disco" follows in the steps of the highly successful DISCO SPECTRUM series that Joey and Sean compiled for BBE. That album was plundered by many sample- happy dance producers, to the point that almost every track on Volume 1 has been used as the backbone to a club hit. In their latest installment of genre genius, the boys have hand-picked the more soulful and funky tunes from the disco days for today's listeners and a few first timers.
So rare and highly sought after are many of these tracks by Disco connoisseurs that the original 12's of this album would likely cost you several thousand pounds, if you were lucky enough to find them in the first place.
This FUNKED UP collection spans the years 1976-'82, with an R&B slant and more song-based material; and is intended to show that there were a few more sides (many more to come, of course) to one of the last century's biggest musical phenomena. Half of the tracks included appear in exclusive DJ friendly re-edits courtesy of Joey or Sean.
In a compilation brimming over with accessible earthiness, rawness and downright soulfulness, Joey and Sean continue on their mission to help us understand how disco's influence is still shaping music thirty years after it broke into the mainstream.
DISCO JUST GOT SOUL!
About the Artist
He made disco cool again when they said, "Disco is dead" and is widely regarded as one of the founding faces of the UK dance music scene.
Fifteen years on and house pioneer Dave Lee aka JAKATTA, JOEY NEGRO,MISTURA, DOUG WILLIS, RAVEN MAIZE, Z FACTOR, SUNBURST BAND etc is still at the forefront of the global scene and continues to make the Top 100 DJs list every single year, but still isn't committing himself to just one name!
Universally acknowledged as the MASTER of all things DANCE-FLOOR and CREDIBLE, Dave, under the pseudonym of JOEY NEGRO, was one of the first producers to sample disco music and was largely responsible for giving meaning to the term `disco house'. Today he continues to reflect his extensive love of a massive variety of quality music by producing and playing the kind of eclectic and mind-blowing sets which showcase the many edits and updates of old tracks he's become famous for. "I'm forever chopping up new records in the studio to make them work better in clubs - I can't help myself- I couldn't be a producer without being a DJ".
A hugely respected PRODUCER AND REMIXER first and foremost, Negro uses his DJing talents as a sound-bed for tweaking his musical creations to perfection. His work ethic is legendary, having been involved in well over 200 productions, countless albums and hit singles. He has worked with a GALAXY OF STARS from Lionel Ritchie, Mariah Carey to Seal.
Not content with being the most commercially successful house producer in the UK (this is the man who has had more TOP 10 HITS than other UK house producer after all), he is also responsible for compiling and mixing endless successful compilations and running the heavyweight successful house label Z RECORDS. In the words of I-DJ Magazine "A Truly, truly great talent!"
