Afro Beat and Some
There is at least one absolute gem on this album: psychedelic Woman - The original track. There are plenty of other good tunes but in my opinion not as stand-out as the opening track. Amateurs of Afrobeat won't be disappointed by this charitable buy and be immediately aurally rewarded for their good action.
As for the remixes most of those I thought would be brilliant based on the remixers (Bonobo, Quantic, etc) are a bit of a let down with possibly Quantic coming out best on the first few listens.
Overall a good buy but not as essential as I hoped it might be.
Superb album!
What a brilliant idea for an album, you take some classic undiscovered afrobeat gems and put them on 1 cd and then get some class DJ's including Paul Okenfold and Bonobo to remix the same tracks on the second cd. This cd honestly blew me away, and best of all I found out from reading the inlay, that _all_ the proceeds from this album were going directly to grassroots charities in Africa! Definately recommended.
