Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Another album to add to The Trip series. Probably the most varied and entertaining mix since Tom Middleton's award - winning 'Trip'.

About the Artist
Joey Negro is a bit of a musical institution as a highly respected DJ, remixer, producer and all round oracle of most things musical. His 'rip' mix takes in many musical directions that is part guilty pleasures, part jazz-funk, part funky soundtracks and wholly enjoyable.

Customer Reviews

A trip worth taking5
Wow, this is an amazing and eclectic mix of music, that has, I guess helped shaped Joey Negro into the talent he is today, spanning the genres and making, the likes of the Divine Comedy, Dusty Springfield, Jan Hammer, Sergio Mendes sit comfortably together. It real works and is a treat.

Ignore his reputation as a big DJ I think this album is an insight into the real Joey Negro/Dave Lee. Awesome!

We're all djs now - and this doesn't cut it2
This could be a compilation from one of your mates with dodgy taste. In today's mp3 world we're all capable of pulling similar lists together, and they'd make as much sense as Joey Negro's The Trip. I ask you, Glenn Miller? This is eclecticism for eclecticism's sake, and the novelty wears off after a single listen. Better stick with the superlative selection by Saint Etienne and their version of The Trip, with its stylistically defined era of late 60s to early 70s pop and soft rock.

Disco-tastic!4
Joey is obviously riding high in the charts with his housey pop workout, and others know him for his sublime reworking of 'that' American Beauty sample as Jakatta. So, some (including, I presume, the other reviewer of this CD at time of writing) might find this CD a confusing departure from all things banging.

However, the point in the "Trip" series is to allow DJs such as Joey (Dave, to his mum) to create a musical journey (it's all in the name!) of the tracks that have shaped them and their music over the years. As you might expect, Joey plucks a number of fantastic disco-esque numbers from the vaults and shows them off to the world. It isn't anywhere near as self-indulgent as some of the tracks that end up on Azuli's (admittedly fine) "Choice" CDs, and it's all easily enough to bring a good smile to your face.

Look at the tracklisting, and if Kool and the Gang and the B52s sound like they could be your bag, then dive straight into this deftly mixed marathon of fab tunes. It's a clever choice to stick on during the early part of your house party, or to keep everyone happy on a road trip. Nice work.
