Customer Reviews
Well groovy!
The second in the series, and streets ahead of the first, this is a really strong collection of modern funk tunes.
I think after the first volume, the compilers realised they had to up their game, and it shows.
It seems that, rather predictably, it is top-heavy on quality, with most of the cream being on disc 1, but there are some genuinely good cuts right through.
Too many here to go into too much depth, but we have an uplifting groove from The Bamboos, a great nagging funk piece from Quantic (with top vocal from Spanky Wilson), Mr. President gives us a sense of urgency with skittish dislocated tune, James Taylor Quartet has a hard, 'blow-up' style hammond led funk groover, Flevans gives us a fresh n zesty slice of dancefloor...with harps!, Alice Russell's Catch a Fly is cooler than a frozen ipod, Dr. Rubberfunk does a great remix of Malente ...not to mention his cool re-rub of Skalpel. Greyboy is catchy as measels, Maelstrom & Napz give us a lovely urgent groove, And Nostalgia 77 Octet add a touch of Jazzy class to the end, although they are perhaps a little noodly for some tastes.
OK, if we are honest, if this was a single CD they could cherry-pick wall-to-wall gold, but as it stands, there are no stinkers, and it does provide a great platform for some smaller names to be heard.
Big ups to Wagram, you have done a great job.
