Innovator4
Sven vath has been pushing musical boundaries for decades and in his latest collection of tracks from his sessions at Ibiza's Cocoon club he continues to refuse to go with the popular flow.
Much of the music collected here is new to most people and none of it is simple dance tune stuff. Many tracks are extremely layered and complex and are as likely to make you think as get up and dance. This is nothing new with Vath he has always gone that little bit deeper with both his own music and that he chooses.
The overall theme is a relaxed, blissed out kind of vibe as opposed to a thumping dancefloor soundtrack and this is especially so on the 2nd disc.
The mixing here is 1st class and segueways are very difficult to spot. So too the packaging goes that extra bit to give a very nice presentation.
Overall this is a great album that continues to showcase well an artist who can both surprise and delight.
If you liked this then try the 'Touch themes' remixes of 'harlequin...' it's superb.

and I seriously mean that. This is the perfect mix to remind us what Sven is all about. All of the season mixes have been brilliant (other than 6 which for me didn't feel like a proper Sven mix) but this Release, no.7, is beautiful it incorporates all that we love about his sets, the tune selection, the order and timing of each one and the mix itself is faultless throughout and presented in a way that only Sven Vath can. I just had to listen to this straight away after the first run just to be sure and sure enough I sat there again shaking my head in time to the music and grinning in total disbelief. It's deep, it's floaty and bleepy quirky and crazy, it grinds and builds, it mesmerises and at regular moments is breathtaking. This is a seriously lovely mix.
and not only is this a great snip of what a Sven mix is all about but it also shows how healthy the techno scene is and it's a credit to the artists on show here who continue to push dance music into new and exciting directions. This is An absolute Gem!

and dont get me started on disc 2 ....
