Tom`s On Top Form!
I am a big fan of Tom Middleton mainly through his work with Mark Pritchard as Global Communication. BUT in my eyes he has been wasting his talent somewhat by DJing and making electronic music which is moulded for dance clubs and the Ibitha scene, having said that he is on the top of ladder as a club dj and remixer, it is obviously his passion nowadays and fair play to him for doing what he loves.
I always buy his albums as there is usually one or two pieces of genius that pop up as I plough through the ibitha mud pit! No offence to Tom but I don't really get anything from this type of stuff.
I had high hopes from this album as it had been promoted as "Deep electronic music full of emotion". One thing Tom does better then anyone if his mind is on it is make deep electronic music, and that really is my thing.
And this is back to top form for Tom he has made a very good album that is a mixture of all the things he does, In my opinion it is more the vibe of a chilled out ibitha album BUT to label it as just that would be very unfair as there is some very good tracks such as beginning of the middle,sea of glass,yearning, St Ives Bay and the stand out Margherita which despite the title is very Global Communication sounding.
I have no doubt Tom will now go back to clubs to dj,party and make albums suited to the club scene, but I hope every so often he comes back to doing deep emotional electronic music and if he asks Mark Pritchard to pop round, even better ;)

OK, the title of the review is a bit Sunday paper pretentious, but stick with me!
This album is an absolute delight from start to finish. Beautifully produced with some really subtle touches in the mix, the mood changes from optimistic to contentment, from pensive to one of considered reflection. The tunes themselves ~ no vocals to interrupt the flow ~ are memorable and catchy without being repetitive and help you enjoy a real journey throughout the CD. 'Chill' does not do this superb collection justice ~ I often find that with some other chill/ambient/down tempo selections, there can be a feeling of hollowness and lack of thought as to how the listener is kept engaged from the moment the needle drops until the end. Not so here: Get on the train and take the ride to the end and then if you are hooked like me, press the 'replay/loop' button. Enjoy!

It's not comparable to Global Communications it has a broader palette but after listening to it and off over the past 24 hours, I really do recommend it, if this genre or (any) music appeals!
There are a couple of tracks that remind me (in the construction) of Terry Riley's seminal `In C'
