Review
Travel Book of the Week As a wannabe walker, I'm much taken with the Discovery Walking guides new Walk! UK series which covers all the major walking destinations from the Lake District to Exmoor. Walk! The Brecon Beacons, £12.99 by Bob Greaves, is a handsomely produced book of 160 pages in full colour with Ordnance Survey mapping and a spiral binding. Each itinerary includes a route summary, ratings for effort, time, distance, ascents/descents, refreshments and vertigo risk, a fully detailed walk description, global positioning waypoints along the route for pin-point navigational accuracy and a full-colour 1:40,000 scale map of the route. There is a good choice of walks for all abilities. Frank Barrett --The Mail on Sunday March 5 2006

Highly Recommended!5
Being spiral bound makes this book easy to refer to, along with well written directions taking you through some stunning scenery, noting the pubs en-route is great! The small OS map outlining your walk is really helpful too.

Thus far I have walked 5 out of the 40 walks and hope to do them all by the end of the year! I absolutely adore this book and highly recommend it to others!

Just a quick note about the maps with each walk...5
The only disappointment with this book would be that the maps are rather hard to read and make out. I would therefore strongly recomend that you purchase Explorer OL12 (Brecon Beacons National Park - Eastern Area) and Explorer OL13 (Brecon Beacons National Park - Western and Central Areas) which will cover most walks.

Otherwise this book is excellent, giving a wide variety of walks at all levels of experience!

An excellent walking guide to the Brecon Beacons5
I love this area and have walked the Beacons for years.I found the selection of walks intriguing - some old friends, but plenty of new routes to try.

I have done walk 26, Pen y Fan from Taf Fechan (I had climbed it before but by a diffent route), and walk 32 Taf Fawr - wonderful views (and not too strenuous!) and found the route descriptions clear and interesting. There are plenty of points of reference throughout the descriptions including frequent timings, compass directions to keep you from getting lost, and I am finally coming round to the idea of getting a GPS as all the walk records in GPS form are in the book. There are some lovely photos taken on the routes, and the mapping is the latest OS; it is very useful to have a map section for every walk.

This book is a pleasure to read and a pleasure to use.
