Manufacturer's Description
Water filter expert Brita has lauched the first household chiller to improve the taste, smell and appearance to tap water. The Brita Aqua Fountain has been created in partnership with Breville to ensure you get the best of both world: technology from teh leaders in both electrical appliances and water filtration.

The Aqua Fountain boasts Breville's blue illumination feature. Aqua Fountain is the first household chiller to dispense Brita filtered water. It uses limescales, cholorine and heavy metals to improve the taste, smell and appearance of water.

Aqua Fountain holds up to 4 litres of filtered water and features Memo, the electronic cartridge exchange indicator, and easy flip-top lid and convenient lever dispenser.

The Aqua Fountain can be used at home as a countertop chiller as well as in an office environment, to dispense chilled, fresh water throughout the day.

The Maxtra Cartridge

The BRITA Maxtra filter cartridge with the unique Maxtra 4-Step Filtration has +20% improved limescale reduction compared to the BRITA Classic cartridge*.

In addition to that, it reduces other substances such as chlorine, which affect the taste and odour in your tap water, reduces aluminium and certain heavy metals (like copper and lead) along with certain pesticides. Organic impurities are also reduced.
How it works: The result is cleaner, clearer water for great tasting hot and cold drinks, delicious food and less limescale build up in your domestic appliances.

*vs. BRITA Classic when used in BRITA jug water filters (average according to BRITA standard test protocol)
Maxtra offers an advanced filtration technology that works in four steps:
How it works: Step 1
Intensive Pre-Filtration
In a first step the water flows through a fine mesh filter. This is the pre-filtration. The mesh retains particles, which are present in the tap water.

Step 2
Ion Exchange Filtration
The ion exchange resin comes into action! It reduces the carbonate hardness, which causes limescale that affects the water quality and leads to a limescale build up in your household appliances. Also, levels of metals such as aluminium, copper and lead are significantly reduced.
Step 3
Activated Carbon Filtration
The granulated activated carbon is another step in the BRITA water filtration. It significantly reduces substances that affect smell and taste of your tap water such as chlorine, certain pesticides and organic impurities.

Step 4
Intensive Final Filtration
In the fourth and last step a special fine mesh filter retains the particle mixture.
How it works: The Maxtra FlowControl leads to a consistent flow rate through the cartridge for an improved water filtration.

Contact times between water and filter cartridge contents have been optimized for your convenience and our best ever performance!

    Noisy chiller3
Having used a Brita filter jug for the past two years to filter my water and appreciating the results, I was looking forward to enjoying the same but with the water being chilled. The look of the Aqua Fountain is impressive and the blue lighting effect is certainly an addition to any kitchen. What lets the Aqua Fountain down is the time it takes to chill and the noise it makes doing it. It can take up to three hours to chill the water, not bad considering it holds three litres, unfortunately it only chills 1 litre at a time.
It also makes a seemingly constant noise as it chills this stops when the water is chilled but in hot weather it starts up again within 1/2 and hour. This can be irritating especially as every time you take out some water it then starts the chilling process again.
I have had an Aqua Fountain for 4 days now and it has barely stopped making a noise.

    Good, for a while4
Bought one some time ago because I was fed up constantly filling filter jugs. Worked like a charm until the cooler mechanism packed in. It still cools the water but does not chill it adequately. I discussed this with a friend and he had exactly the same problem. Now out of warranty it is cheaper to buy a new one than to get this one repaired. Might be looking at other options though. Although I would recommend it, be warned.

    Potentially dangerous1
Was given this as a housewarming gift by my folks. From the outset it leaked around the switch housing and base and nothing seemed to stop it. Decided to empty it fully and on so doing found that there was water in the motor area amongst all the electrics.
I don't want to think what could have happened if I'd left it overnight.
I wouldn't touch this with an insulated bargepole, it is frankly poorly constructed and a serious fire hazard.
Other sites have also reported a large number of problems with this unit.
