Manufacturer's Description
BRITA Elemaris XL Chrome water filter jug
Tap water in the UK is perfectly safe. However, it doesn't always taste, look or smell as pleasant as we'd like, and the effect can be noticeable not only in drinking water but in hot drinks and food cooked in water.
BRITA water filter products use a mixture of carbon and ion exchange resin to remove hardness, chlorine, heavy metals such as lead and copper, and other organic impurities to improve the taste, smell and appearance of cold and hot drinks.
The Elemaris XL Chrome water filter jug uses the BRITA Maxtra cartridge for 20% better limescale reduction. With a larger capacity ideal for families and regular use, Elemaris XL Chrome features 'Memo', the electronic cartridge exchange indicator to remind users when to change the cartridge. It holds 2.2 litres filtered water, or 3.5 litres in total. It is scratch resistant and dishwasher safe (excluding lid.)
Customer Reviews
It works, and looks good
We decided to try and reduce our plastic waste, stop drinking bottled water, and invested in this jug instead. Some people will argue that bottled water is no different to tap water, but I disagree. I know tap water is perfectly safe, but it tastes horrible here in the Midlands. I grew up just thinking I didn't like water, but since I tasted bottled water I drink pints of the stuff. The results from this jug are *almost* as good - it certainly makes our tap water more than pleasant enough for me to drink. And to top it off, the black/silver colours are an EXACT match with our Morphy Richards Perfection kettle so it looks good in the kitchen too. The ingenious filling method means the jug is always covered so no dust/flies etc. can get in, and the water passes through very quickly so even if the last person didn't fill it up again, you aren't left hanging around for 5 minutes waiting for the filter to do its thing.
When our jug arrived, the little electronic timer/reminder thing in the handle which reminds you to change the filter every 4 weeks didn't work, but a quick email to Brita brought a new timer in the post in a couple of days, free of course.
Chrome?
If you need a water filter, you probably already know it. By the time you get to this review, you will be sure you are going to buy one. My comments are about the 'chrome' finish. It's not chrome. It's a silver coloured plastic, maybe even a grey coloured plastic. I like it a lot, and strangely it doesn't look out of place next to chrome appliances. Just don't expect it to be chrome.
For the privelidge of owning this 'chrome' water filter, I paid about £10 more than the white version. That's 3 months replacement water filters.
Makes hard water usable
We have had real problems with the hard water in Kent - kettle really scummy and rough taste.
This system is really practical - doesn't require complicated soakings etc. The jug is big enough to hold enough water and the filter works quickly enough to fill it up in no more than a couple of minutes.
After 2 weeks, our kettle had descaled itself, which was an added bonus, just by using filtered water - with a brush we could remove all the deposits and we had sparkling clean kettle (it is chrome, so shows everything) with no nasty white and brown crusts.
It's great for the espresso machine as well, as there are no deposits to clean from the water container.
Plus, the whole thing is smart enough to use at the table as well.
All in all a very sound purchase.
