Buffalo Bill - he's not5
Alan Jarrett's book is a celebration of a dying art. Like Charles Dickens, another Kentish boy, 'Wildfowling Ways' admits us to a hallowed state of reverence. Not for exploited children in Victorian times; or manic-depressives at Christmas time like Ebenezer Scrooge.. but for ducks and geese.. in the present day.

In life.. and particularly in respect of politicians.. there is what people say, and what people do. It's not always the same thing.

This book takes us on a journey onto the saltmarshes of Kent and beyond. It's not a journey for children, the elderly or the faint-hearted.

As a boy, it was the likes of Colin Willock (Editor of the 'Survival' TV series) who fired up my enthusiasm for hunting in remote and muddy places. But Alan Jarrett shows, over and over again, that whatever it is in modern man that harks back to the primitive days of the hunter-gatherer is alive and well.

When you realise that it was the Wildfowlers who re-introduced the more or less extinct Greylag Goose into Kent.. it makes you wonder. This book begins to explain why.
