Master raconteur of the saltmarsh
This slim volume contains many of Alan Jarrett's best published wildfowling articles spanning several decades.
For newcomers to the ancient art of wildfowling, it is another layer of revelation.
Out of the municipal duck pond and way out onto the foreshore, driven by the primitive instinct of the hunter, he takes us out with him on his lonely and often unproductive forays into the tidal wilderness which is the Kent marshes.
He takes us back to times past, when the definition of 'fair game' was different. He celebrates old friends who shared this time with him and whose values may seem a generation astray in the year of publication.
But they are no less authentic and fascinating, for they include his mistakes as well as his triumphs. Not recommended for vegetarians, Alan Jarret's books are the closest we get in the United Kingdom to the spirit of the North American Indians.. whose culture and values pre-figured those of supermarkets and intensive farming.
